Hi Guys
If you are thinking of purchasing a second hand machine how many hours on the clock would be a resonable amount for the machine to be still in a good working condition. I have been offered a Extracta Exel with 71 hours on the clock. Would this be a good buy with these hours on it?
Sorry for sounding ignorant but currently my company does not offer the service.

Hi Guys
Has nobody any advice??
-
71 hrs is not many at all.obviously would depend on price.looked after properly machines can literally go on forever.
-
Hi
Thanks Top Cat thanks for your reply i have been offered it for £650.00 is it worth buying.I have looked on their website and it retails at 2100 plus vat

Basically a carpet cleaning machine is a couple of tanks with various configurations of vac motors and pumps. The vacs and pumps are servicable items and need periodic replacement. However a well looked after machine can last twice as long as an abused one.
If the Exel is genuine with those hours then it has hardly been used. Depends on the price.

If the machine only has 71 hours on then it is in a near new condition, it then depends on if they are asking for a near new price as well!!
I bought a back up machine a couple of years ago with 500+ hours on the clock but it was in mint condition and has served well as both a back up machine and also as a second set-up machine.
A good business will be putting 1000 hrs or more on a machine each year.
-
at 650.00 with that few hrs on i would go straight to his house and buy it now before someone else does.hope this helps ;D ;D
-
It belongs to a lady carpet cleaner who bought it then found it too heavy to carry out from the back of her van.
-
I have first option on it and basically confirmed today that i would buy it but wanted to firm it up by talking to the professionals... ;D
-
i`ts a bargain.all the best with the carpet cleaning :)

I regularly service machines with several thousand hours on the clock-- mind you they have had several new vacs and pumps over the years.
Its like my broom Ive had it for nearly 40 years- its had 12 new heads and 4 new handles but they made things in those days!

It will be mainly commercial. My company mainly concentrates on Office Cleaning and we are being asked to provide a carpet cleaning service as well so that they can keep everything under the one umbrella.

Mines got well over a thousand hours on it, as had been said allready there are only really three main parts and if and when they go wrong you just take out the offending part and replace with a new one.
For future reference the cheapest supplier i found for replacing vacs and pumps was Woodbridge direct, there cheaper than going back to Extracta.
Ps, 71 hours is brand new
-
Its definately the Exel and has only done 71 hours
-
if you dont want i will ! and ill give you a drink on it !
eles are ok mine as 9000 hours on the clock its about 7 years old , my hubbys as 11000 hours on and he beats the life out of it , my other two have 4000 on each ;D
-
Bin those Excel's Susan and use the TM now! :D

If your wanting a machine to clean in commercial / offices you would be better off looking toward LM systems ie dryfusion ,texatherm , craftex or charlie pads etc
