for the 3 people who asked what my ad was like here it is, this is the same as last years (almost) which worked really well ( otherwise why would i repeat the same ad this year and put the same ad in another directory ;))
sorry its a bit blurry, but you can see the basic layout

thats a shame its blurry
i cant see how good looking u r 8) 8) ;D

Nice ad,.. mind me asking roughly what it cost?
I'm looking at YP advertising now, and the rep I met with gave me prices of €1200 upwards for an ad not 1/10th that size!!
-
2 grand
mike
-
Crikey, is that all upfront or do you pay through the year?
-
I paid it out of the money i earned last week :D :D
the other book is costing the same.
Mike
-
Not a bad price for an ad that size Mike, I will be paying around £1200 for an ad probably similar size to the Servicemaster ad just below yours there, it will however include an additional colour. Providing this ad goes well I may try an ad the following year with a photo.
Nigel.

Mike, I'll take your 2 grand and then I ll bring in more work than the yellow pages will for you. Actually I'd do it for free. Anyway, does it bring in that much that its worth doing? I guess so else you wouldnt be doing it but just wondered. Best, Dave.
-
I said on a previous thread where daft people were saying all you need from an ad is a 1;1 return that my advert brought in 5-1 but i worked out this number when the book just came out, during the busy xmas period it went barmy I would guess it brought in 7/8-1 so it is worth doing, that why I've done exactly the same ad in another book, I'm hoping for the same return.

My half page YP ad this year, is just over £2,700.. No colour, due out any day now.

Mike
With all the offers what type of customer does it attract.
Yellow pages can put your head away with the price shoppers.
Mark
-
I do get price shoppers but I can tell them when they speak and tell me where they live and I just blow them out.
I get a lot of good customers from near me because the photo is nearly the same as on my van so they say I 'see your van all the time' and the bottom line list the area i serve, so i get lots from that area.

Do you push the dry aspect of your suite cleaning?
Shaun
-
how do you mean? offer a dry cleaning service?
one of the top 3 boxes says most 'Suite dry within 1 hour!'
Mike
-
I may need glasses then 8)
upholstery cleaning can be hard to sell so drying times are a good selling point.
Shaun
-
the 3 top boxes say;
1)10% retired person discount
2) most suite dry in 1 hour
3) we move the furniture a 2 man team attend every job
-
Mike
I can only see five fingers, what lm system are you using in the picture?
Len
-
its just my truvox scrubber, thought it would more interesting than me standing with my wand :D
Mike
-
So brand recognition does work for us providing you are patient and work at it with consistancies.
Shaun
-
if you want more business take the picture of you out, it probably scares the kids
colin

Mike
It defiantly got my attention ;)

Mike
Finally we get to see one off your adverts, and It's GREAT.

It scares me, and I'm no spring chicken, ha ha ;D ;D
-
jealousy rears its ugly head ::) ::)
I'm the 3rd best looking carpet cleaner in the UK and you lot can't stand it ;D ;D
the only scary thing about my ad is the obscene amount of money it makes me!
booked my first job today off the new book ( its been out a week) but some will still be using the old one ::)
it was a 3pc @ £130 and they chose to have their kitchen cleaned for free, I was the only company they called

jealousy rears its ugly head
I'm the 3rd best looking carpet cleaner in the UK and you lot can't stand it
mike....who has been telling you lies again?? ;) ;)
-
Who's Secound then because I'm first- I understand that the top two places need to be taken by people that have hair ;D
-
Have you noticed that Mike has been saying this for years, it's one of his marketing jests, people always ask who th eother 2 are!
Shaun
-
well i have all my own hair does that count ;) ;)
well if he is 3rd.........................doesnt say much for the rest of us does it! ;D
-
Nice ad Mike thanks for sharing, very true YOU are good looking :-*
-
Hi Mike
Hope u dont mind me asking, but how much business would you expect from this advert??
Regards
Dave
-
12ish grand would be about right ( cost of ad 2)
I've forgot to say this advert is nearly an exact copy of my leaflet so I get a lot of people calling me from the Y/Ps who tell me they received my leaflet loads of times, that why they called me
Mike
-
I had the same leaflet made up as Mikes which he gave me the last time I saw him.His January offer leaflet was a winner so I cannot see why this one will not work either, people love the word "free"
-
I used to have a double column by 2.5" deep. cost about 1100.
Last year I had a single column by same depth and it has not made any difference at all to the response.
When I put a photograph of me instead of a cartoon the response went up by 35%. The small ad pays for itself in about 3 weeks (thats profit not turnover)
C+++ D++++ always have a cheesey picture as it works. One of our locals include their 6 month old baby.
The local rep said that a big ad can frighten custs off.

Thanks Mike, i've heard that yp usually brings in about 5 fold.
What makes an advert more successful?
Selling quality of clean or leading the customer into thinking they're getting a really good deal ie making them think they're gonna get a bargain if they phone you...?
regards
Dave

or leading the customer into thinking they're getting a really good deal ie making them think they're gonna get a bargain if they phone you...?
