Title: Electric Oil Heater
Post by: Robert Watson on March 09, 2007, 05:38:05 pm
Hi Guys,
Got this email today, sounds like the guy has done as much as he can.
What do you think would be the best approach?
If its seeped through to the backing, think I`ll have wicking problems.
Input appreciated as always.

Hello,

4 days ago my electric oil heater decided to rupture and empty it’s hot oil contents into my carpet which is under a year old. After unplugging and removing the unit I used a complete roll of kitchen towel to absorb the oil. This was done my placing the kitchen towel onto the spill and by applying pressure – no rubbing – I was able to remove quite a bit of oil. Because replacing the carpet is going to cause so much trouble is it then possible to remove the remains of this oil patch without discolouring the carpet? And at what cost?

Regards,

Rab,

Try and find out which types of oil the radiators are filled with, but it sounds like a walk away to me. If you know what its filled with give me a call and i see what i can concot for you  ;)

Those things must hold a few litres of oil and a lot of it could be lurking below.  If you clean the top, i would think it would come back again and again.

If you need the work it could be worth a punt, but it sounds like more hasstle than its worth.
