Hello CIU,
How much would you charge for a five day a week static operation? (about 6-8 hours work every working day, week in week out)
What would you charge for a one man setup and what would you charge to put two men on a job everyday (one man and one lad), Bear in mind it has to be competitive for certain reasons. However charges incurred everyday for parking etc would amount to around £50!!
How much ???
What about doing it at night or starting really really early? but what about paying the men will that extra cost balance off the day charges?
Remember this is the holy grail of work, the grandmother of jobs and they don’t get much bigger and better.
I have to be competitive for a couple of good reasons, one is if I succeeded in getting this contract many doors will open.
Look forward to your replies

That will be a ticky one. I doubt you will get much for it, if you have to give a price for one or even two men on a permanent basis I would be surprised if they would be willing to pay much more than minimum wage. Do you have to supply kit or are they suppling it? You might be able to make a couple of pounds there. I guess you will have to factor in the price of holiday pay, sickness, insurance etc etc. But if you think it will open many other doors then price sensibly and get the job and see what happens.

Cheers for that mike. I tried, but could probably blag a storage cubbard for our equipment, that would be handy because I could employ locally or send the lads on the train everyday.
Its a very prestigious building in London and a company that must make tens of thoushands a day, so surley they will pay.
How much?

I have no idea what they might cough up. Most places like that will have a team of cleaners on site and they will more than likely be on minimum wage, the company employing them will make a couple of quid on top an hour I would guess. You could ask someone in the security business as they would be in the same position, one or two guys on site everyday, low overheads and paying as little as possible and then adding their mark up. I suppose the thing is how much do you think you could employ someone for and keep them happy at the same time? If it is £10 an hour then quote accordingly but dont forget your mark up. You could always try and get a bit of work around that place and they could sneak off to do it to make up their wages a bit.

My brother worked for a large cleaning company in london based at one building a bank for a bit. His pay at the time and this is about 5 years ago was £10/hour so £80 a day. I'd say pay your men £10/hour and charge the company 100% on top so £20/hour/man. In the long run you may have to employ the men payee and if so the 100% on top is what you need to charge. I do some work for the nhs and we go for the £20/hour/man rate. At the end of the day though big business will go for the lowest cost not the best job.

Pro - I'd look around £20/hr/man on a sub contract basis. You sub the work to them, they are responsible for their own PL insurance etc.
Pay them half that and you're quids in.

Thanks for the replies fellas,
I was thinking around the same but then what about day charges, paying staff for early starts.
Not sure if I would sub it out, could be even more hassle.
Fingers crossed, Im feeling quite lucky ;D

If it's an all nighter then maybe charge more and pay the staff more, but early starts is just part of cleaning anyway some guys start at 5am, the benefit is that they finish early. £10/hour is a nice hourly rate to earn for a job that requires no qualifications. Make sure that a good profit can be made after expenses though. When putting in your price maybe go for the 99p like 19.99/hr/man. I know a guy once who won a contract because he was 1 pence cheaper than his competitor.
