I have been asked to quote for a block of 12 luxury appartments, each having 10 windows and going up 3 floors.
They only want them doing on as required basis. The flats are on a west facing beach, so get blasted with salt and sand.
What percentage extra would you charge for "as required" and considering the salt and sand problems.
Each clean would be the same as a first salt encrusted clean. Dai

minimum £2 per window so £20 would sound about right if they are straight forward windows that is(access/size)

Before you give a price, tell them you don't and won't work on a 'as and when basis'.
Tell 'em straight you only work on an agreed interval basis; even if that's an every-three-month or quarterly basis.
It does matter, and without agreeing to your terms; you won't quote.
If they don't agree, you haven't lost anything, since do you really want to clean a property that's only done once-a-year? And not only that; having done 'request' jobs; you generally lose them to other window cleaners anyway; since you don't have a chance to build up a repitoire with them.
Ian_Giles took a 100 quid job from us, which we did on demand, and he's charging them 120 quid and has a set cleaning frequency with them.
Why?
'cos they must've lost our details; so they asked him. The receptionist used to phone us to clean; maybe she moved on?
I promise you it wasn't from our quality of work. We used to do a good job! ;D

Edd. far too much work mate. But if the price is right, like everyone else I would do it.
It's the salt issue I'm worried about. All of my work is within a mile of the sea, but faces north. These windows facing west will be like Rosskivas in Brighton.
Maybe Dave St Ives can tell me how much longer it takes to do these, or Ross of course. They are all PVc frames though. Dai

and as you said luxury appartments add a little on, as "luxury appartments" attract a "rich tax" ;) you knows it makes sence

i never turn any work away its just the way i have built up my business
sometimes it leads on to being more regular or even other work :)
it all depend whether you yourself can be bothered with doing this type of work
when required work is only done to my schedule i must add
i always do my regular work first and fit the other work in when it is convienient to me
depends how much you need the work
and remember its all money in your pocket
i cant believe some window cleaners turn work away for this reason
imagine if all other trades behaved in this way

People like this rarely ask just one person for a quote. Sounds to me like the management company only wants to pay out when the windows are really bad and they have no choice. This looks like a case of lowest quote gets the job.
