all the sounds on my computer have gone high pitched all my music now sounds like it's being sang by the chipmunks even my windows sounds are doing it. don't know if maybe my 2 year old has done something to the settings or if my sound card is packing up!

Goron, could indeed be a sound card, if this is integrated into your motherboard, it could be costly as you would have to replace the board and likely have to replace the processor and memory unless its relativly new, ( the curse of moores law), id look at your sound settings by clicking the little speaker icon near your clock if they are all around the same level its unilikely that this is your problem, next check would be that you speaker sockets are all connected properly (im sure your done this), and finaly test the speakers, use some headphones in your speaker socket, if you are getting the same result then try unplugging your soundcard (if its not integrated) and pushing it back in (obviously after pooptung down the PC and earthing your self to avoid static damage) cards can occasionaly come unseated especially if not screwed down. If you do need to replace the card then its not to bad news.
as you can pick them up for about £15.
Hope this helps

I'd try re-installing the driver before you go pulling the machine apart! Get the original disk,.. NOT a driver from windows update web site. 50/50 chance it will work,.. but it will save you money and hassle if it does!

you beat me to it, one of the windows updates or something like that has probably disagreed with your soundcard drivers, I would reinstall the drivers for your sound card and if that does not work then system restore, if the sound is on board you can just install a new sound card, you wont have to replace your motherboard or anything drastic like that. ;D

Get a Mac ;)
Honestly, if your are thinking of upgrading, have a good look at the imac.

I went for the 20" £999 :o 17" is £799 :o The pains soon forgotten, and you will have a great bit of kit that will last for years. 99.9% virus free.
You just take it out the box, plug it in, and away you go for hassle free computing ;D
Wish I could say the same for my CC gear.
Good Luck with it.
