This reminds me of a tale of yore.
Many of you will not know of Mary Whitehouse, the clean up TV campaigner, who was a self appointed protector of public decency, very active in the sixties.
The following is purported to be an extract from a letter from the Director General of the BBC, responding to one of her complaints:
Dear Mrs Whitehouse,
I have reviewed the recording of the Home Service broadcast you referred to in your most recent letter. Indeed your hearing did not deceive you in that the presenter of the programme did use the phrase "Tits like coconuts".
However, had you not "......immediatly switched off in disgust" you would have heard him continue to say "Sparrows, however, prefer breadcrumbs"
John.

Very good John ;D ;D

It's the way you tell em John!!! ;D ;)

I got involved in The Mary Whitehouse thing.
I was working away and came home for the weekend, my dad had voluntered me to project slides of a Mary Whitehouse Malcom Mugguridge Leagueof Light Rally held in Trafalgar square.
One of the organizers was giving a talk to the local church.
They were not amuzed when I put the slides in upside down and when I told them that I sold top shelf magazines, they were absoutley discusted.
The vigar (my old headmaster) got his revenge many years latter by mucking up my sons chrisining. The joys of a small village

I thought Mary Whitehouse was the lady who was the dog trainer and shouted out "walkies" :o
-
Just remembered it was Barbra Woodhouse :-[
they were both around in the 80s so an easy mistake :P
