Title: my website is alive, please critic.
Post by: martin19842 on February 26, 2007, 09:54:19 am
good morning,

well finally ive decided to put together a website, first one ive done.

it may fall nicely with a bit of marketting we are planning for qtr 2 and qtr 3 of this year.

the truth is, we have a very small, high ticket customer base, that up until now has generated 95% of our work, but you can never have enough, so thought we would give this a whirl.

there are still a number of recent project pages to be uploaded, to showcase some of our jobs.

so please have a look if you wish, ANY comments at all please tell me good, bad or ugly.  they will all help.

hi there

no not at all really, the biggest prblem is that i have so many pics on file, as we photograph most of our jobs, its part of our client reporting process.

so it probably took longer to sort through them.

a couple of evenings of pc work and done, need to add the project showcases, and will do that this week.

Hi,

Nicely done.  Couple of things/suggestions I noticed . ..

The page is wider than my screen, but when you scroll over, it's just empty space .. . nothing terrible, but that just does my head in!

On the Graffiti page, the wording doesn't flow from Para1 to Para2 - I'd actually have a comma at the end of Para1 and just continue the sentence.

It may be worthwhile sticking a hyperlink on the header where your company name is held, which sends a mail?  Having to go to the Contact page to email you may get you less enquiries.  Again, just personal opinion.

Finally, I've found that utilising a form generates more enquiries than sending an email.  They enter their basic requirements, click submit, bingo.  People are so lazy that you have to spell it out and make it easy for them!

Hope some/all helps.

 ;D

hi there,

exellent all taken on board, will make some changes this evening, thanks keep it coming

shelton,

the scrolling to the right,

you have probably got your screen at 1068 x768
where the guys running 17" and 19" more cmmonly run screen sizes at 1280 x 1024

s whilst the small screen setting sets a right scroll bar, the larger screen setting fills the page,

rather than having the site config itself to individual screens.

gleam,

cor i wish i could write in in html,  no its been done on a visual editor, but i have tinkered with some of the html, and when i put the search strings in then i'll just type those straight into the html.

chees all for now

Nice site, but imo the font used for the menus is a bit hard on the eyes, i suggest using a softer edged font :)

Hi Martin,

Good site!

1. Don't forget to add your meta tags.

2. Would the menu items look better left justified rather than right?

hi there

yes meta tags, are being added to all the individual pages, straight into the code.

i'll look at the justification

the recommended changes so far will be up today, got to juggle that with loading skips, and packing up drying equipment.

oh joy.

Hi Martin

I think the site is very good, it,s something i keep meaning todo , did you do it all or did you use a company to finish & load.

We are similar to you but on a smaller scale, like the variety, but can be awkward with lads jumping from one job to next.

Do you use a hot water pressure wash, i looked into this & was going to have a whale system but at £17k it was a lot of money.

Do some site work & done graffiti & repaint work all through birmingham. My business needs tidying & expanding, but i do both sides so can be difficult. Plus knackered knee recently that hasnt helped.

hi there

the variety--- or as i call it product mix, diversity.

the variety is the great thing about my business,  and i find that it it keeps the workforce stimulated, with differing jobs through the month.

and the profit levels vary on difering jobs and therefore te balance is good.
