Hi all
Have been asked to remove some dye from a carpet in a CO-OP store.
It is on some carpet tiles (which they can probably replace cheaper than I can clean them to be honest), some wool mix carpet and some synthetic carpet.
It is the blue dye they put in cash bags that explodes if it is stolen and sprays the thief. Someone knocked a till off the counter and it pulled a cord and set the explosion off.
Not dealt with this type of dye before so any information is gratefully received.
Thank you
Andy

the dye is designed so it cant be washed of for at least a couple of days so as to identify the thief
you have no hope in my opinion
if its tiles just pull up the ones that are marked and swap for some from under a desk or something

Hi Red
Thanks for that. I thought as much... damn... would have been a goodun.
Thanks again

Personally i would swap a tile for one from an inconspicuous area and take it home, then play with all sorts of chems to work out what does work at removing said stain. That way at least you can learn from this and KNOW from future staining what does and does not work. Knowledge is power-remember.

Great idea Damian.
Will obviously share any findings here.
Thanks

Andy have you tried an ink or colour stain remover?
I've found zip-it from one step excellent on many different kinds of ink marks.
I'd try that and possibly prochems stain pro which I've also had good results with.
If they dont work and it is a dye and the colour has set at least you've tried and can charge them accordingly for your effort ;D
I would pre warn them that its unlikely to come out but you'll give it your best shot.
Good luck!
All the best,
Jason.

Andy if you work out what works then at least you can submit a costing on the job. Therefore-for now, the job is not lost. More so this particular job could lead to a chain of repeats chap. Thats the way i base my business anyway. Nothing ventured etc!

Hi Jason
Not tried anything yet as only got the call yesterday and they can't have me until next week (don't know why).
Have told them that I need to be in there asap to have a go but they insist it has to be next week.
Great advice from all, thank you very much.

works wonders.

Please remember that we're talking about carpet TILES. We all know about the damage that solvents can cause on tiles :( This is probably the reason that Jason advised Zip-It as opposed to Zap-It
Safe and happy cleaning :)
