Title: Water tests????

Hi guys, I'm looking to change from trad to wfp, it seems a minefield of what to buy and where from?
1stly, I live in Exeter in Devon which is I'm told a very soft water area, so I should get away with just a DI tank, or so I'm told??
But the big question is how do I find out about the quality of the water in my area?
What tests do I need and how do I go about them, I have today ordered a TDS meter but do I need anything else to check?
Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!

TDS Meter will do fine for testing the water.

Devon is a very soft water area; down here in Plymouth the water straight out of the tap is 72ppm so up in Exeter there should be not much difference.

Hi Goochie,

If you do decide to go the Reverse Osmosis route (it is always cheaper in the long run, albeit more complicated) you will also need to check your water pressure.

We offer a free loan TDS meter and Pressure gauge, just give the girls in the office (01726 61143) a ring and they can arrange it for you.

Hi Stuart, what RO units do you use in plymouth and do you also use an DI unit or with such soft water do you find you dont need them?

Alright Goochie I run an Ionics Pro 5 System which has 40x40 RO (I think ???) then the water gets polished off with the DI.

You can run a DI only system down here but as Alex said RO works out cheaper in the long run as you don’t use as much resin as you would with DI.

After RO on my system the tds reading in the holding tank is 001 so in theory you could just run an RO and not worry about DI vessels but i use one just in case.

with 72ppm tap water i personaly would forget RO & go for 2 x 11Ltr DI vessels in sequence. giving the vessels a good shake (mixup) when tds reads 001 will prolong resin even further. done this way your resin costs will be a pittence to what you should be earning, plus you'll have less hassle, cheaper start up costs, no holding tank etc. & pure water on demand (no waiting hours for tank to fill back up).
