On one of the boards John Bolto(n) was suggesting to a newcomer that it could be a good idea to aquire a carcase or old portable put new motors and a 400psi pump in
Do you know of a supplier of 400psi pumps.
Woodbrige only appear to have 135psi in cat.

Asbys do a good 400psi pump, but there must also be others.

John I have a aqua 40 from alltec which I find is quite a good machine , could I buy a 400psi pump and just fit it on.
1) would it make much of a diferrence
2) WOULD i need better vacs
3)how much would it cost

the problem with fitting such a big pump is not just
the pumphead but the motor required to power it, both the physical size and power it needs to turn the pump means it is'nt usually possible to fit into a average machine( most portable are very limited in space so as to maximise the solution capacity)
I use a 500psi pump and it need a 1 HP motor to work it, a 1HP motor is the size of a 2.5lt tin of paint I tried fitting this into a Ninja, Cheyanne & a Extracta it was impossible.
In the States they fit the Cheyyanne with a 500psi pump but use only 1 vac so they must have Enough vaccuum with one 3 stage vac motor to handle the pressure.
My pump head & motor cost 450 inc VAt.

Cfr have a 1000psi pump in some machines but they only have 1 vac in and they do weigh a bit aswell!

I have just upgraded my Ninja to a 160 psi pump from a 135 psi with good results.
A better spread patern and it seems to clean quicker!
I am also going to try reducing jet size on Dereks advice,
as this may reduce drying times.
I imagine this may increase water velosity and at the same time use less water.
I had to make some slight adjustment to pump alignment to allow vac motors not to touch the pump.
Bigger pumps are availalable for the Ninga, but with much work involved to fit. The above is nearly a straight fit.
In other words, if your fitting a HUGE pump in a standard machine, it may involve quite a bit of work due to motor and pump head size as Mike says!
Will it clean better?.......

Not that easy.
I thought that Ashby machines were like computers you were able to fit lattest tech as it became availble.
Come to think of it each time I have upgraded my computer notm the laptops I have had to buy a new case.

It was another one of my no sleep postings, plus as my replies are spontaneous and nobody has replied to my question on Spellcheck and are sent without proof reading what do you expect.
Ps I have been reading your replies about the early days of cleaning on the other board and have come to the conclusion that you are getting old ;D

Sorry for delay in reply (worked late last night)
I am not intimately acquainted with the innards of that machine, so cannot be sure of the available space.
Another consideration is current draw, which may dictate a separate power lead.
Also when upgrading a pump, it may be necessary to upgrade internal plumbing to suit.
Regarding the vacuum power, if more water is put down, then more needs to be recovered. The amount of water discharged at any pressure is controllable (in steps) by the jetting associated. Also the amount of water that hits each square inch of carpet can be varied by wand technique. Man, machine and tools are all part of an integrated system and as one element changes, others can be adjusted to compensate.
In simple terms, if you fit a more powerful pump and continue working exactly as before the likely result will be wetter carpets - on the other hand, if the remaining elements in the system are suitably adjusted, then, with the same vacuum power, the carpets may even be drier.

i have a ashbys ninja with a 400/psi pump but it keeps going back to ashbys with low pressure and had 2 new heads. matthew :-[
