Title: Low Pressure Vs. High Pressure RO Membranes
Post by: U.S. wfp USER on February 13, 2007, 08:14:57 pm
I have noticed that you can purchase membranes that are designed for low pressure.

How do these perform vs. high pressure membranes?

They are quite a bit more expensive so Im wondering if you get a better product over the high pressure when not using a booster.

Thanks.

the low pressure membranes are more suited to home users as they will produce more at sub 100psi pressures than a high pressure membrane.

the high pressure membranes are more suited to high tds applications where a booster pump is used, typically around 300psi

what booster pump will achieve 300psi?

you'll need a 4inch horizontal Myers MPB

7/10/20GPM 115/230VAC

outlet pressure 315psi.

Where can I purchase this Myer pump?

Is the clarke pump that has been mentioned here not up to the task?

Thanks.

the clarke pump is fine for the low pressure membranes, the myers is the job for the high pressure membranes.

I would honestly recommend the low pressure membranes with the clarke pump - you can run 2 membranes off one clarke pump - with around 400ltrs/hr production at 98/99% rejection at only 50% recovery.

I have already ordered a 4040 Highpressure membrane.

Where can I get that Myer pump?

its in the mail.

there is a pump over here that is like that but the psi is only about 200, not 300

200psi is fine, just make sure it has a high enough flow and is rated for CONTINUOUS USE

All I have ordered so far are the membrane, housing, sediment, carbon filters and there housings.

Will be piecing this thing together slowly as spring arrives.

Couldnt pass up the price I got on the 4040 though.
