Title: Steve (easyclean windows)
Post by: Davew on February 09, 2007, 09:11:18 pm
Steve, did you get your Maplins split charger wired ok? Hoping to do mine tomorrow but am a little confused over the negative wires on their diagram. Can they be earthed at different points i.e. earth the leisure battery in the rear of the van, the car battery in the front and earth the relay wherever is easiest? Only the diagram shows them all joined together? Dave

Hi mate no you have to send both the negative connections to the relay and then one from relay to the chasis

I hope this diagram helps

Beat me to it thanks guys. But would you not put a fuse between the alternator and the unit? Would you need two more - one on each live feed to the batteries?

Dont see why you need the unit connected to the alt and the van Batt they are afterall already connected together

Ps squeaky you wait one day you'll wanna know this too

Well dont comment on a topic that you clearly wish to have nothing to do with.

My split charge relay has only 2 wires  one for a permanent live in and out to the battery.

I thought sod that too.  That's why I paid someone to do it for me   :)

It only seems a hassle because you are reading of all the problems that can happen from lots of different people.  If you were to break it down into which problems that people have individually, it wouldn't seem so bad.  I've read of loads of problems on here but have only experienced a few of them myself.

Squeeky

you really are a dinosaur.

the good thing about a split charge relay is that you dont really need one if you dont want one.
wfp is just as good without one.

Well if you're on that much more money then fair enough, but I can't see there would be enough increase in my round to merit such complications.

ps. Yes I'm feeling ok and not smoking.

Well sort of... my car has blown it's gearbox or something and making grinding noises in gear.
The mot's out anyway.

I've got to go out tomorrow and buy a £100-odd car to go to work on monday. >:(

It will be a pile of crap and might last a week, but it will have paid for itself in a day or so, so I have to do it really.
