Title: Websites again
Post by: rs_cleancare on February 08, 2007, 04:14:45 pm
I have just had my website finished and the marketing is about to begin.

I thought this would be of interest just to see how much work they are producing.

The hard part Rob is getting your website to page one of the search engines, don't expect to much until you get up there. Also Google stick you in a play pen for about six months.

Not being the pessimist but it takes time.

Thanks sparkle..
From what my web designer has said is that a lot of the time he can get it reasonably high on the search engines within the first month.
But does not promise it which is fair enough.
Chatting to a friend that used his service said it took 4 months to get top and that was two years ago and still remains in top postion.

Long term I would like to be in the top three as people will get board of looking.

Rob.

Ian,
have you promoted your own site?
If so how well has it done with the search engines.
The only reason I ask is that im a novice when it comes to this and I feel for the small out lay I have paid a professional to do the hard work for me.
Please don't take this the wrong way but it's like somone hiring a rug doctor and getting a respectable result but then paying me to do the same job and getting the wow factor!!
I think it's all down to what you know and all it would take me to get my money back is one large job from the site or two reasonable size jobs.

It all depends on what you want to see on your website, a website designer isn't a marketing expert neither a carpet cleaner and doesn't know what you want to say (from the heart)

To get a well crafted site saying all of the right words in the right order to get people to call you is only known best for you is written by you!

If you do direct response marketing as I know Ian does the wording will be 90-95% there (no such thing as 100%, hey Ian?) pictures and lay out help but the copy has to say the right things.

Imagine a pretty website good on the eye saying "I'm a carpet cleaner now bog off!" at first a user will look at the pretty pictures then be drawn to the text, if it doesn't compell them to act then the pretty pictures are wasted. Also if the site isn't easy to navigate round that's another dislike.

Rs are you going to show us your website then?

Shaun

Interesting to see that already well over a third do not have a web presence,
Web sites are your on line brochure open 24/7 unless you have critical mass and don't need any more clients (lucky you) a site is something you must all be looking into at some point in the future.

I am no expert by any stretch of the imagination and constantly seek help and advice on the subject but what I have learnt is 'page rank' is very important.

Google operate a page ranking system based on a logarithmic scale its very hard to climb up the rank and the vast majority will not have any rank at all, for instance googles rank is 8,Virgins new site is 0 but I don't suppose Richard's bothered that much ;D. within a matter of weeks Virgin will be right up there of course.

So google does not distinquish between huge multi nationals and one man opeartors when it comes to page rank, its all about content and links.

Incidently on their brand new site the strap line says, 'This is not a home page its a front door, open it and walk in'...  superb :)

The higher the ranking the further afield your page will be advertised on google content sites, for instance Yahoo MS ASK etc so more presence is achieved.

Hits are not the be all and end all, for instance my site had 91000 hits last month alone, its visits and pages that count. If some one visits then that means they sought you out and walked in the 'front door', this is where your enquiries will come from.
But only if ,once they are in, your site is interesting.

Remember 1 click and your history so keep them there for as long as possible.

Most importantly when building the site and placing copy, you must remember that the site is for potential clients and interested parties not for the benefit of other carpet cleaners, so aim your pages to market at customers and not cleaners.

I often liken it to opening a shop down a back alley way somewhere.

If people don't know you are there they won't come and visit. You won't get any passing trade either

Once you get into the phone book people will start to find your shop and will come and visit.

Very professional site

if you want a critisism it's not very personal, it's more like a statement

Thanks Shaun.

Im open to all critisism as I am no marketing expert. As when I first started I wasted money on rubish adds and it took a little time to find out what worked.

This will proberbly be another learning curve and will not know what works until I have tried a few Ideas. It will be interesting to see what sort of customer it attracts if any!

Please all possitive critisism. I have had friends and family look over the site but they will never be that honest.

Nice site, I'm sure I've seen something very similar like it before - is it a template?

I wonder if he will let me clean and protect his suite as payment?

I'm not sure if it's a template just let the designer do his work...
The site and marketing cost £550 (bargin) so if anyone else requires a designer just get his number from my site and let him know how you got his number.
He is also giving me some software to go with it so I can moniter where every hit comes from and know when somone is looking at my site.

Looks like a nice site.

£550 seems like a lot of money for it though?

The price includes all the marketing!
I was getting quotes of almost 3 times that.
On a previous post somone had paid £2000 just for the marketing so I think thats a fair price.
