Post by: AuRavelling79 on February 05, 2007, 07:34:32 pm
A while back, Tosh (I think) said he knew where to get an alternative battery for the shurflo - anyone remember where and how much?

Malc,

I bought two from Motorworld in Cymbran for 5 quid each; they were originally designed for those motorised electric scooters that kids play on; but I think they were old stock and that's how I got them so cheaply.

They were exactly the same spec as my backpack battery though; so I think it's quite a common generic type.

I use my backpack every day, and I get through an average of 125 litres of water (today 150 litres) and a battery lasts me about six months.

I never let it run 'dry' and recharge it every day.

I hope I've been some help, Malc.

12v 7ah is the standard size for a backpack, so long as it fits the hole is 12v the ah can be as high as you like.

The 12v 7ah should not set you back much more than a fiver from maplins, I don't know what price on line, or in there catalouge, but this was the price I saw in my local maplins on sat afternoon.

Thanks - this sound more like it:-

Cheap battery that doesn't fit properly.
Roll of Duct tape.
Bits of wood for jamming between the battery and the backpack sides.
Pliers to bend non-fitting electrical connectors to shape.

I love the world beyond the manufacturer's guarantee! Much more my style! My project for the next rainy day!

Malc,

I'm sure it's a common generic battery size, like a AA for your transistor radio or walkman.

I can't be more help, since I got two batteries from Motorworld and when I needed a third, I'm using my battery from my second backpack from e-bay; which is still going strong.

Please let me know where you get a battery from! ;D

Malc there is a place by me that sells the batteries for around about £ 16.00 i can find out if you like as my freind bought one for his matabay backpack, so if the batteries are the same for shurflo bp,s i can get you one if needed.

Hi all and thank you - home for lunch - so an update.

Spoke to my bro. (yup there's more than one like me!) who's into all things lectrickery etc. and he reckons his CPC catalogue has the right one for size (physical dimensions and 12v 7a/h) and also for the type of work it will do. They are about £12.00, so I've asked him to get me two when he orders at the end of the week.

I'll try one and report back on it in a week or so and keep you posted as the months go by as to how it lasts.
