Rhys,
What have you been saying when canvassing?
All I say is: "Hello, we are expanding our window cleaning services in this area. Do you have a window cleaner at the moment?"
If they say yes then I walk away. If they say no then I say: "Would you like me to give you a quote?"

-
Is there any more tips
yes don't call a fellow pro a idiot ::)
Its a numbers game! you just have to stick with it! at times it will be hard, when I went out knocking doors, some nights didnt get any at all, but going to the customer is the best way to get work - full stop - look smart, plan days before hand where you are going to knock and stick with it ;)

Actually im definatley more like an Idiot than a pro but thanks anyway :)
-
if your having no luck then try a different area!
-
Rhys, just as others have said here...it is just a numbers game....knock on enough doors and you WILL get the results you want, throw out enough leaflets and you WILL get the calls...just keep on canvassing/leafleting...
Good luck Dave. :D

Look for dirty windows for a start. Don't get discouraged. If you go to an estate that's pretty well covered, your not going to get much joy.
When I started, I looked in the local papers to see where houses were for sale on new build estates. New builds are the only way your going to get a compact domestic round without buying one. Saturday and Sundays were the best for me when canvassing. People are more relaxed then, rather than when they have just got home from work. If you don't quit, you'll win. Dai

try putting flyers through the door at least they have something to pin up. May be your not speaking to the right person ?
I've just put out 400 flyers and had 30 phone calls and out of that 25 orders
just an idea

Another tip Rhys. If you find that first few houses you call on all say "got one" then chances are their w/c is doing the entire street so you're probably better moving onto the next one.
I agree with Dai in looking for dirty windows but don't expect too much regular business from them. Almost treat the job as a one-off and change accordingly.
Good luck.

Hej BBDL, how did you do that?
-
Thankyou all for your help :)
many thanks

rhys. canvassing is an art, ive been ding it for yrs. take a sheet of paper, write all the numbers down and visit every single house until you have spoken to nearly everyone. most will be rude, look at you as if you have two heads and threaten to set the dog on you. but the other 3 - 4 % will give you a very good living IF YOU STICK AT IT. best of luck.

RO-SHEEN...
Just copy and paste the url into your reply... i.e. go to the pg in question, go up to the title bar, right click then copy, write your email and paste it in...
hope that helps!

Hi there,
I'm no expert, but canvassing forms an integral part of my business, just as cleaning the windows and collecting money owed to me does. I work with another guy and to make it interesting, we compete with each other, to see who can canvass the most work within a given evening etc. He who gets the least new work buys lunch, or drinks afterwards. It just helps to add a bit of competition, and, dare i say it, fun, into the equation...
Cheers, Matt
