Post by: brett walker on January 26, 2007, 09:46:55 pm
Hi all

Ive always wore one side down and changed it over but after reading some posts on the forum i think maybe i should be changing it every day.

I change every day but it depends on what type of windows ill be doing that day.
I have got through 5 blades in 1 day but that was on crap windows with bad flacky frames.

I change mine either when it starts leaving lines or when i wear the corners a bit.
I don't use a squeegie that often now so maybe once a week sometimes goes longer.

Every Christmas whether it needs it or not! Hang the expense!

Now I'm WFP I don't use it as much but I still do french windows and patio doors trad because of the finger marks. Probably change mine once a week but it really doesn't need changing that often.
Why change it every day? I could understand if you said you turned it around everyday and changed it every other day?

I started changing mine a lot more frequently when I realised that a rubber in good condition could all but cut out the detailing.  I went from changing it about once a month to every few days.

Blimey that's more frequent than me!  Though I'm only cleaning around 30 houses a week, trad only.  I flip the rubber every 2-3 weeks, but find the flip side only lasts 1-2 weeks.  It's always the corners that go first with me, so I'll change it then, or if it lasts 3 weeks then it gets changed that weekend regardless.  Nothing like wasting a bit of work time changing the rubber to p*** me off!

Thanks lads for your replies so far  8)

I know a window cleaner that used to use a 14" rubber and when the corners had worn down he cut it down for his mates 12"

No matter what rubbers you use they just dont seem to last as long as they used to years ago :-\

I bet there is a fall in sales of rubbers

I always carry a pack of 3 ;)
