Title: don't you think a van like this would ideal for WFP
Post by: steveaqua on January 25, 2007, 09:34:38 pm: I know its old and battered van but i like the idea of the back being totally open but i thought if you were working in close proxomity instead of getting everything in and out every two seconds this van would be a good solution

open the sides, as long as everything is secured down properly and some decent brackets to secure the poles it would be a lot quicker jumping in and out the van.

what do you think?

I see other trades using them, bright yellow(ex AA) with roller shutter doors each side. I'd like my next van to be one of them.

you see loads of them these days, very handy, i guess whent he aa sell them off they sell them to a auction place ( isnt that the norm where fleet go ?? ??)

Post by: cybersye on January 25, 2007, 10:57:10 pm: cheers steve b, sure it would take a 250 ltr tank, maybe more?, I have a ford courier at the mo, but only having the one vehicle I find one passenger seat a bit limited especially on weekends with daughter, no room for anyone else! I was wondering where people pick em up from (ex AA) auctions maybe? or do AA sell them on ?

You wouldn't need to treat the floor either as they have big aliminium sheets for the floor with drainage holes in the corners.

I think myself that would be better than a standard box van.

You could easily get a 650litre flat tank in there with poles stored on top and then you could have a hose reel stored in each of the back lockers which would be plumbed in you could just open the rear hatch doors and reel out.

My son recently drove past G D Johnson & Son (Commercial Van Sales) in Sheffield 0114 2873202 and they have some ex RAC vans for sale (all + VAT.)
He noticed that a couple of Transits had a tailgate rather than the standard twin rear opening doors. The beauty with this is that you are afforded a little protection from the elements with the tailgate open.
Down side is that it isn't as desireable as the twin doors when it comes to resale and they are also orange rather than white.

Post by: steveaqua on January 27, 2007, 01:14:12 pm: When i was out working yesterday i see an LDV milk float, i think these floats would be ideal, SWB, big area in the back for a biggish tank and i think the payload should be quite high as well seeing as its carrying milk bottles
