Title: why do wool carpets give wet dog smell
Post by: dunny19 on July 22, 2004, 09:10:48 pm
i always use a deoderiser when i clean and it smells real nice on synthetic carpets, but on wool/natural fibres  it makes no difference, is there a deoderisor that i can use to stop the wet dog type smell
cheers

I think damp wool smells like a farm yard, fresh air/back to nature, and then I explain to the customer you have brought quality here!

Hi Guys

Pure wool is a natural animal fibre, hence the smell when wet.

Hi Guys

The smell is caused by the reaction of keratin to water, this is the natural protien present in both wool and animal hair, deodorising will have a limited effect, wool being so absorbant it takes longer to dry the best course of action is to use an air mover to speed dry the carpet.

Best regards Nick

Thanks John I new what I wanted to say just forgot one technical  term
