Hi everyone, just wanted to know do most of you, who employ cleaners get them CRB checked & if so how long does this take? & how much does this cost? I do mainly Domestics but might be starting a contract with a letting agent, so may have to employ some people, any advice would be great, thanks!

the disclosure site doesn't give as much info as you might need.
For instance, I registered ( a few years ago now, when i was green and knew nothing) and paid £300 for the privilege of being able to undertake advanced disclosures.
I spoke to a number of people at the agency, explained I wouldn't be undertaking more than probably 5 or 10 in a year, but NOT ONCE did anyone there explain to me that there were compnies registered as Umbrella Bodies, who, for a small fee, would undertake the disclosure on my behalf, hence saving me a fortune.
I found out about Umbrella Bodies by accident whilst talking to someone. Neddless to say I tried to get my £300 back but unfortunately everything I said and all my please fell on deaf ears, ws I surprised, no, but I would have kicked myself if I had NOT tried to get it back.
Anyway, I am not sure how long it takes now to get one but it used to be about 3 months. I stopped bothering with CRB checks, as I couldn't afford to wait that long to emply a member of staff.
The system is a brillant idea in theory, but like most governmental run departments is cr*p in practice :(

We are thinking of adding domestic household cleaning to our existing carpet cleaning business. How do we find out about this umbella company that you mention to do our crb checks. Any help would be appreciated. The same as you we would only want to do this about 5-10 times. Barbara

just go onto the crb website and search for umbrella bodies, there are lots and are listed in areas :)
