So I have been researching vans for quite a while now and have not found what I want here in the US. I have been looking at the vw tdis, but they are not available here.
Does anyone know what is involved with importing such an item to the US/
Thanks.

Have a friend that imports lots of vw's from california, not much help but will ask him for comments if it helps. You may find it better to export from Holland/Germany.
-
That would be great.
Im looking at getting something in the near future, depending on overall cost of course.
The other issue is finding one that is left hand drive. ;D
The diesel engines are a must in my opinion.
-
all i know is when i looked at importing from the US we had to pay
17.5% Vat
10% Duty Tax
£2000 shipping costs
Registration (not much £)
Don't know what it is going into the US probably the same but what ever your VAT amount is i guess, but i don't really know
-
From what I understand...
NO VAT
Duty tax of 3% or so.
-
well its another case of our goverment ripping us off then ::)
-
sorry to hear that.
got a source on left handed drive vw's?
Im looking for a transporter.
-
We use Ford econolines 150, 250,or 350s
Dont know if they do them in diesel
Why is that a priority as its a pain in the a$$ if you live in a cold climate
I do like the look of the VW transporter though
-
Ecolines are affordable no doubt. I prefer something smaller. Currently use astro vans.
My ideal vehicle would be the transporter, but I dont think its gonna be possible to bring one in.
I guess I'll save my money for 2nd choice. The Sprinter.
-
the sprinters ive seen would be close in size to the econoline
do they make a smaller mini-van size one?
-
There is a shorter one. Problem for me is the height. I need to be in a garage due to freezing. Thats why the transporter would be ideal. Im thinking I may just invest some more money into the astro to get it how I want it.
Do you know if there is a product in the states that is like the protecta kote stuff in the UK?
-
How about a 2 pack of the paint they use on garage forecourts etc
-
Thats exactly what i was
thinking of Jeff
I think i might hold short on sprinkling the dots on it but it shoud do the trick
Theres also some kind of spray on liner for pickups that might do the trick(might be called tuffcoat not sure)
-
Im more of a DIY guy. That spray in stuff is an expensive service. I'll look for some of that garage floor sealant today while im out.

You wont have a problem finding a left hand drive van most of europe have left hand drive, I think the only exception is the uk and cyprus.
