Hi SAJ , IT DID TAKE TIME DIDNT IT .
Sorry you didnt get it , but then if you did i wouldnt have would i , and have no fear , if i do struggle youll be getting a call !   ;D

I should point out that only about 30% of the project is complete so its not all of it from day one , that will give me time to expand if i need to , one upside to the story however is that the contract is of a fair ammount of time , as long as i am sensible and do a high standard of work it should go well .

Poleman , i did think of the danger of posting up but to be honest i dont think anybody will touch me on price , im not greedy but im not stoopid either , as long as i am happy with what i earn , life is good !  ;)

Just as an example , the building i said i had already done was quoted by a big Plymouth firm , lets just say he tripled my costing , and i spent 2 days there and was in my opinion well paid for it .
Dont get me wrong , im no undercutter , and wish not to drive down prices , i just want to at the moment be a 1 man band and have no stress in life .

When you think that i have only been in the game for 2 years and i earn what i earn already whats the rush to get 5 vans out there ?

Best way Rich, stick to what its worth to you and if you get it then your a winner. Good luck to you mate, just make sure you dont under price and it becomes a pig of a job to do, which can happen with big jobs like this, but all the best  ;)

Its nice to have jobs like that, how long will it take to clean.
Have you sorted out terms, you dont want to be waiting to long for payment if the jobs a big one

Not sure how long it is going to take , its hard to explain whats on the first clean , bearing in mind that sea water is involved , the paint will go milky , and they are crap high , i have allowed a week for the first two buildings ,

Only time will tell , the payment terms are about 28 days , and all first cleans will be done over weekend periods , thus leaving my domestics for the weekdays , hopefully i wont miss out on the usual earnings .

Post by: P @ F on January 19, 2007, 12:13:32 am
Good point Andy , i thought long and hard about that , i am in the position to not worry too much as i do have spare time in the month , plus it is a 3 monthly clean , if i do get shot of any of my dead wood it will of course be the stuff which i got in the early days which i am not affraid to say i sold myself far too short for anyway .

If it does go pear shaped then i will go back out on the domestic side and fill up with work that is the right price this time .

When you think about it , its exactly the right time of year for this to happen for me , we all know that come spring there will be an abundance of people crying out for a reliable w/c .

Rhys11 , sorry to say it , but they are not going to be told either  ;)

Too right mate - there are too many people on here who give away far too much information for their own good.

Spill the beans on the facelift pole

Post by: P @ F on January 19, 2007, 03:09:46 pm
Hi Dave , its nothing bad about the facelift , i had shall we say a preminition that i was going to get the contract so i decided to splash out some of my cash on the carbon 8 section jobbie as i did not fancy using the 39 foot excel that i have all day long , it was a very good choice of pole for the work it will be doing , ahhhh , i hear you say i could have got a lighter one for £200 less from Jeff , the thing was as im gonna be beside open water so to speak , i wanted somthing with a bit of weight to combat those rogue gusts !

 Rich P @ F , covering all the bases he can  ;)

Yes I've wondered about the wisdom of revealing too much sometimes.  Yet when I've needed a bit of help people have generally come across and I suppose I sort feel that it's OK to return the compliment.  It can be a tough call on some issues though.

Depending on how well you get on with those who write the cheques, is there a chance you could split the job into three and do a third per month? They'd still be getting done three-monthly, and you would be able to spread your work out easier. You could suggest it would be easier on their (and your!) cashflow too.

Seriously, good of you to share the result here, Rich.

I am happy for you.  Long way from me, no worries.  It is good to see what can be done in such a short time really.

Thanks to this forum.   It's good for those who use it well and don't abuse it.
