Hi,
Can anyone give me some advice here?
Im basically putting a van system together and was wondering what is the best size of hose to get.
I want 100m but dont know wether to go for 6mm or 8mm.
Plus can anyone recommend anywhere to buy it from. i also need a hose reel.
Many Thanks

hi,
I use 6mm micro bore and am very happy with it. I was thinking of changing to 8mm minibore but the general sensus is that there isn't much in it. I have split 100m into 50m x2 I know it's a little more expensive because you have to use two hose reels but I find it much easier to handle when reeling it in. It also means that I can use two hoses for two people if I need to.
The heavy duty hose reels (metal ones) are heavy to lift in and out but are easier to reel in. I have bought some hoselock reels which I have modified, they are so much lighter. The reason I have modified them is that when you buy them they are in kit form and you have to build them. instead of the reel being one cone they split it in two for packaging, which means you have to push the two halves of the cone together to make one reel. when the hose is on the reel and water builds up in the hose the hose expands and splits the reel in two. so I have drillied two holes as close as I can to the inner edge of both halves, of the cones, where they clip together ( four places )so 8 holes on one half and eight holes on the other half (two holes on each clip) I have then threaded some strong cable ties through the holes and pulled them really tight.
I have been using my reels now for four months and have had no problem with them. They are far cheaper far lighter and they dont rust.
hope this helps

Is that varitech? I got my 100m 6mm from them on a plastic reel (Ichose that because it's light and I've gone back to lifting in and out of the van from a fixed reel. It blose standard hose away. And the south african bloke there knows what he's talking about. The little one off valve and holster you get is the business.

Stick with them, they went to great lengths to sort out problems. I got my reel and a part was missing. It was late when I phoned and they must have been about to go home (about 6). They even didn't know if they could supply that part seperatly. I had the part next day and a profuse apology. (no postage charge for the part, and it was in a sealed box so it could have been that I broke/lost it for all they knew).
They got my loyalty. Although maybe they all do that.

I have used both and prefer the 8mm hose although as u say there is not that much difference. I just feel the flow is better out of the 8mm minibore. I know some guys that have struggled with any pressure with the 6mm even though they were using a 100psi pump.

Im the same i have used both and i prefer the 8mm minibore as i was not getting the flow i like with 6 mm microbore but now with the 8mm minibore its perfect.
