Title: WEATHER FORECASTS
Post by: simon knight on January 17, 2007, 08:49:29 am

Being a trad wc with zero interest in working in rain I study the various weather sites avidly. The BBC site is complete crap. Metcheck is ok(ish). But the one that seems to get it the most right is the MSN weather site.

Any other sites I should look at?

I check the met office one sometimes but find that the BBC one is good if I click on my region and then click on "rain" and track it across. (in conjuction with the 24 hr forecast for my nearest location which sets out predicted weather every three hours.)

I like this one shows you where rain is falling and you can track where its going yourself with reasonable accuracy.  I think Ross mentioned the site and Ive found it to be about the best.   http://www.meteox.com/h.aspx?r=holiday&jaar=-3&soort=loop3uur

I prefer this one but it is important to use it right I think.

When you get to the page type in your postcode and click go.  Then use the "hour by hour" tab.

It has a few nice things.

Dew point = the temperature at which dew forms.  The dew point will never be higher than the actual temperature.  If the temperature is at Dew Point then dew must form.  More importantly, the higher the Dew Point the more moisture is in the air (get through more scrims n cloths).

Precipitation.  = The percentage chance of something wet falling from the sky.  Geerally if it is...
below 20% it means "there is only a very slight chance it could rain"
30% - 50% means "there is chance it could rain"
60% - 80% means "it is likely to rain"
above 80% means is as good as saying "it is definitly going to rain"

and the website, nearly forgot...

Try this, it is a forum that has loads of usefull info about the weather and has links to the best websites.

www.ukweatherworld.co.uk

It may take a bit of wading through as there are a lot of serious people who post on there but like this forum for window cleaning, that one is the same for the weather.

Cheers
