Oh this is why i took this this morning...theres window cleaners then there are these
-
im a ladder user starting out in the world of wfp! i feel perfectly at home on a ladder but that is nuts!!
-
You did make that up in an image manipulation program surely? I can't see how that ladder fails to slip sideways unless it's tied at the top somehow.
-
No no manipulation at all i was doing a block of flats next to it wfp and no it was not tied no safety at bottom no nothing thats why i am an indian cos i wouldnt want to be a cowboy like that
-
Maybe the guy standing at the bottom (to the left behind the tree) is there to catch him. It defies laws of physics for him not to slip sideways.
-
Ha that was his girlfriend i think she was observing maybe got a cathers mit in her pocket
It defies laws of physics for him not to slip sideways.
Well you may say that but hes a "real " window cleaner with a squeeggee he was only on the ladder about 4 seconds and straight back down again
-
He was up there 4 seconds too long. If he carries on like that it will be "was a window cleaner".
-
By the looks of it hes left a cone out warning people hes going to fall so to walk round him ::) :o :(
Or did the wfp guy that was there before him leave that behind
Brett
-
No the cone is for the residents next door so you cant park in their spaces
Like most window cleaners on a ladder the feet are stuck well into the grass and the top is on the sill but thats great it wont go no where will it !!!!!!!!!!
-
an accident just waiting to happen ???

Ok. No problem. It's so clearly dangerous that I thought you were having a little humour.
As Victor Meldrew would say "I don't beliiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeve it".

I thought that was someone having a p behind a tree.
-
I reckon the chaps on the floor there stands in that postition all the time ready to catch the chap on the ladder.
Mad haven't they heard of safety nets chipperfield circus use them.

As daft as it sounds this guy will probably be OK, its the ladder falling on someone else that is the problem.
I see, all the time, guys cleaning windows with one foot on the ladder and one foot on some dodgy porch roof, usually angled. WTF is that about? If they start to slip off the roof do they honestly think that having a foot 3ft away from it on a ladder is going to pull that weight back? If anything the only thing it will do is stop them from being able to get their feet right and it will probably send them into the death spin you can get. Golden rule is always 3 points contact, but a silver rule should be to have both feet on the same surface. One foot going down and the other staying where it is isn't what your after.

Chaps as much as we say how bad things are, its not going to change any time soon, as long as I ladder can be used for window cleaning!

I didn't know Squeaky worked by you in Oxfordshire! ;D

Wrong, from the spring they are going to start enforcing H&S on ladders.

Great picture. A question to the moderator can we start an archive of pictures like that? I'm sure others have some to share.
About five years ago I saw a bloke cleaning the windows on a block of flats very much like those in the picture. The attic flats had little dormer windows set in the roof and he was getting off his long whippy unsecured aliminium ladder, walking up the tiles to do the windows then walking backwards down the roof and trying to hook the ladder with his foot. I wish I'd had a camera. I nearly had a funny turn just watching him, In the end I couldn't stand it anymore and had to drive off.
-
He's probablly securely tied around the waist, to one of the near by satalite dishes, failing that he has a large scrim that can be utilized as a parachute, if that failed to open, I see the car is parked near-by, to rush the said wc to the nearest hospital or cemetry. so I don't know what all the fuss is about ;D
How do we know he's not a stuntman, on set for new James Bond movie, you only fall once mr Bond ::)
-
I expect most of us have done that sort of thing at some point.
Get on with your boring lives and stop taking any notice of what others do. ::)
-
He will be fine, statistics say most accidents happen on the last 2 rungs of the ladder ;D
-
might be funny to look at but how many trade have done it in there time

Its idiots like the person in the picture who make my insurance premiums higher, i only took notice because i had finished 220 panes of glass with my water on a stick by the time he got up his ladder...next time ill report him to h&s i coulndt give a monkeys who they are ....hes not a shiner like me s some idiot who has no regard for his own or anyone elses safety ....by the way squeeky i had ladder training in the fireservice for 10 years mate so dont start harping on about how great you are on your ladder because i couldnt give a hoot

speak for your self squeeky, when I use my ladder I use safety devices, both top and bottom, and my ladders are also in good condition, if I couldn't reach a window I would move it, is it really worth the risk for £1 if thats what you charge per window? Maybe less for some guy's.

Since when did I say I was great on a ladder?
Just because I haven't been careless enough to fall off, just like thousands of other people never have either.
-
found a pot of wooden spoon for you all ;D
-
just help your self! ;D
-
*** PLEASE REMIND ME WHY I DONT USE LADDERS ANYMORE ? ***
In answer to your request EasyClean why not take a look at the picture in your first post of the topic and then you'll realise that your now not taking a big risk in your job! ;D ;D
Shaun R. :D

or take a look at the big time risk takers cleaning gutters in a recent post!

Idiots is a bit confrontational so I have modified it.
If we are going to help eachother on here (all of us) then we cannot choose to be opinionated about people who are not forum members who have had photographs taken of their unsafe working methods yet hold our tongues when a forum memeber posts photographs of themselves working extremely unsafely.
It cannot work both ways. I am honest and I hope anything that has been said will make you think twice about how you work and the possible consequences of your death or serious injury to your family.
A good set of ladder stays will cost about £40 - £50 and you will wonder how you ever attempted to clean gutters in any other way.
Never extend overlaps more than 3 rungs. If you were to fall and hurt yourself or someone else resulting in a claim being made, you can be ASSURED that your insurers would negate any claim when they found out, and they will find out, that you had extended your ladder more than the permissable limit. Ignorance is no defence.
No safety devices will lead to a similar outcome.
Resting ladder on gutters is a KILLER.
I assume you are Licenced in Scotland as your website says so as well as saying your staff are uniformed.
Surely (I don`t know) you have to abide by some form of health and safety guidance. If you do, I will GUARANTEE the shortfalls depicted in your photographs would cause any licensing officer to question your working methods.
All advice which I offer constructively and I hope you take on board.
