Title: crinkly rug

had a call today from a regular customer to book in her suite and she happened to mention one of the rugs i'd cleaned for her about 3 months ago  ::) was still a bit crinkly around the edges.

from what i can remember they were the very soft Laura Ashley style rugs,no backing to them, but maybe a bit of a border?

 she says one was perfectly ok , but the other will not lie flat at all.

Usually i find if rugs do crinkle a bit around the edges they normall lie down flat when dry.

Is there any thing i do to remedy the situation? - I don't think she too bothered about it, but I would like to do something to put it right if I could!

Any thoughts would be welcome.

             I hate laura ashley rugs, most of them seem to do it, I  have an 8x4 sheet of marine ply in my workshop just to press them flat after they have dried, I did one yesterday and it wrinkled as soon as I pre-sprayed it! :o

Not a lot you can do now, afaik. Perhaps worth taking it away in future and tacking it down whilst it is cleaned/dried.

I was thinking something similar, a heavy weight of somekind just to try and flatten it out again, can't see there would be any other solution.

most Laura  ashley rug are made of Viscose, which is wood pulp, and unless pre shrunk will tighten and shrink. Most instructions are to dry clean on the high street, and even then they wont lie flat.

Hi rob, ive got the chance of a legal dc machine , its 8kg, is that any good for a shop?

Many oriental rugs are hand made and if wet cleaned they require 'blocking' to prevent buckling...this cannot be done on site.

Anyoe who use a dryceang machine, hae registered andthe machine has to get 80kg per litre of solvent, what make is machine, and how old is it, 8kg is a bit small.

Just a quick update on the Laura Ashley rug that crinkled.

I took John Rees advice and put the rug under some marine ply and left it for a week or so, and the rug came out as flat as a pancake 8)

Customer was chuffed too, just thought i would share that in case anyone has the same problem.

It does seem you can flatten them again which is a relief. ;)
