Title: Freezing tanks
Post by: U.S. wfp USER on January 14, 2007, 03:36:00 pm
Im wondering what everyone is using to keep their vans from freesing.

My van is garage kept and im still facing hoses that are freezing up.

Thanks.

When we used pure water up in the Boston area in the winter we used to run a gallon or so of windshield washer fluid thru the system until it came out the tip
We did this any time the temps were expected to dip well below freezing and just spray it out back into the bottle the next day,Not very time consuming and worked every time

I am using DI tanks rather then holding tanks.  Once the hoses are frozen I have no real way to pump water through them.  I need to keep my system from getting too cold to start with.

This spring I am planning on switching to an R/O-DI system though.

How/why did you make the move to Ireland?

No, still in the US,  originally from Ireland just moving back this year sometime
I want the kids to grow up around their extended family
We used a di system with a holding tank so we would just pour the winshield fluid into the tank but could you not use a pond pump or the like to pump straight from the gallon to the end of the hose, it really does not require much to fill the hose line and then we would let it stay in there over night to prevent freezing

You make comparible wages in Ireland to Boston.

We have thought about a move to UK often.

These days the wages are comparable but the cost of living is way more over there
Ive been told  by friends who have made the move it takes about 2 years before you settle and get used to all the differences again

if your van is close enough to your house you can run a extension from your house to your van & plug in a oil filled radiator only £25 from factory shop, works a treat & keeps every thing in the back of your van warm, awww cosy eh lol,
