Title: be afraid, be very afraid
Post by: jouk45 on January 11, 2007, 11:22:52 pm
this new window washing system was just launched in 2006. i think this will take over from the self cleaning glass, they are mainly aiming at high
rise buildings, offices, and shop fronts, and very cheaply to.
its comming to the uk soon  :'(

Saw roughly the same thing at a trade show in Vegas about 15 years ago, Still haven't seen one on a building, My guess is that window cleaning 1-2 times a year is cheaper than the maintenance costs of the system
Although in your H&S enviornment it may not be

Lets just say that it cost 50.00US per pane(which is probably quite a bit lower then reality).

Building 'A' has 400 panes of glass spread over 3 stories.

Cost of install=$20,000.00

How many times would you have to have that building cleaned to make this thing worth it?

There are very large hard to reach buildings in major cities in the US and some of those buildings have robots on them cleaning the glass 24/7.  That is a bit more of a realistic option in my opinion.

In my opinion if they had it available 15 years ago and it never has gone to production then Im not worried.

Could you sell one?

I think it looks great - so many things to go wrong or need attention.

And what happens when you try to clear a bird-bomb, one wipe at a time? Oh, my aching ribs. And if you're advised to fit it to swivelling windows so you can easily change the nicked rubber . . .

Hundreds of investors? Millions of funds? That's a salesman talking - he'd be in full production by now and could show you a video of one in action. Just like self-cleaning glass, I can't see too many being fitted retrospectively, and if the architect for your wonderful new house tells you he's got a delightful gadget to fit to the windows which will take away any bother you might have had about keeping them clean - for only £XXXX - it's going to the foot of the list of priorities until you've figured out how much his overspend on lightswitches and toilet fittings is going to fleece you for.  Bring it on!

I dont know how this thing works but if you have to change a rubber if only once then how would that benefit a high rise building.

Great idea if it works - and most of us know that it won't work well.

This system looks like its just a built in pure water cleaning device a bit like a sprinkler in an office but how can it scrub....bird mcuk....vehicle pollution etc it cant all it does is rinses small dust particles off thats it no worry there then.

It probably cost about 10 grand well if you charge £20 per month thats £240 per year then oh thats only 41 years of proper window cleaning @ £20
