Title: why do you clean windows?
Post by: Mr.G on January 11, 2007, 04:00:17 pm
what's your main reason for doing our job- To make as much money as possible,  or, for a stress free working life? Mine's the 2nd one, I could earn a fair bit more if I put the hours in, but I really can't be bothered,  I clean windows cos it enables me to work short hours for a reasonable income, anyone else out there feel the same way?

Me im my own boss (apart from the wife) if i want to take any time off i don't have anyone to ask.
I get good money and pick the hours i want to work.
I enjoy working outside.

What more could you want.

1 I do it because I want to be my own boss

2 Also I do it for the money. I make more money now than I would if I was working for someone else.

Plus windows cleaning is fun :D

the flex factor coupled with ability to earn a basic wage in part time hours.

It is also quite nice running your own business.  I wouldn't clean windows for someone else.

At the beginning I started doing it to get off the dole.  It took a while to realise that decent money could be made.  I enjoy the flexi time.  I enjoy the (usually) low stress experience.  Also I earn more money than I would working for someone else (I have no skills which are recognised) and in less hours too if I choose to do it that way.  Window cleaning for all this time may well have made me almost unemployable anyway.

only for the money, i seem to be the exception to the rule,i dont enjoy cleaning windows, but most of the unskilled factory jobs around here pay only £5.00 an hour, unless you want to work shifts, i worked night shift for 25 years, and thats enough for anyone.

so window cleaning is the best option, for now anyway

I enjoy the thought that I am my own boss but in reality I am less my own boss now than when I was employed....

But with that being said I look forward to when I have a full round and then onto shaping it into the 'beast' of my dreams which should allow me to provide for my family and allow me time and money to dive.

Some days I wake up nervous about window cleaning, at the moment I am so new to it all that I do not really take the time to enjoy it, I am too occupied with trying to do the best job that I can and worrying everytime a customer changes/comments on my service.

All in all I enjoy the idea of working for myself and having a degree of control.

Dave.

That's healthy.  It shows you want to offer the best possible service.  As your confidence improves, you'll relax more.  You'll never please everyone but at least you can sleep at night knowing you did your best! ;)
