If anyone is interested I have pics of my new set up (couldnt quite afford to upgrade to a TM :P). I dont know anyone who has the Mytee set up in the van, so had to work out the best scenario myself.
I will be getting a reel system soon, so at the moment the hoses are simply dumped in (will post pic when done).
I have run the 12v pump and pumped the whole tank (250ltrs), and the battery was fine and the van started no prob's, soI know that it will be fine all day ;) (Gary you were right!)I have still retained the portable aspect too and its a simple operation to unload, so I can still do pucker apartments ;D
Sorry for the poor quality pics...

Woops! ignore the first one DOH!!!

Nice set up, did you build the ramp yourself?

Fletch.

Kev, have you used it yet? whats it like.

How do you find the Vac power ?
In the adverts they claim that it will work with up to 150ft of vac pipe ! ;)
Which I find hard to believe when its got the same vacs / set up as the Ninja, and although the ninja is just about usable at 75ft, 100ft is the max if you don’t want to leave carpets wet for a week !
Mytee Advert below.
Truck mount performance from a portable?
Introducing the Mytee Speedster
Huge vacuum power - faster drying times than any 2 vac machine in the UK
Can be run up to 150 feet from the machine!
Massive cleaning power - 450 psi Pumptec pump
Hot, hot heat - two heat exchangers cut through greasy soil
Can operate straight from the van - saves hours set-up & downtime
Auto-fill & speed dump-out options - no more filling buckets
Near truck mount performance at a fraction the cost
-
hi kev you have email
darren
sorry about that just read other post hose reels you already know
-
Fletch
The ramp was the result of when I used to run a franchise (I know, lesson learnt!)
John
I have used it, but mostly on UPH. Although tomorrow Ive got carpets and UPH so can give it the works. Since the new year Ive had loads of spot cleans (surprise srprise).
Chris
The vac power is very good. Ive used it at 75ft so far and no prob's. I am getting very hot water at the wand (from cold water), but I will know more tomorrow when I do longer runs (I will report back on this).
I had to sacrifice a bit with van space, I had to get rid of my Sahara and spotting machine - but hey ho!
-
I don't think either the vacs or the vac set are the same as on the ninja.
The vacs are more powerful than the Ninja's vacs and are set up in parallel, not series. I was told that you couldn't run two of the vacs in the Speedster off one power cord because it would take you over 13 amps, that's why you get one vac running off each power cord on the Speedster.
One Lamb 3-stage vac is not necessarily the same as another, there are lots of different versions of the Lamb 3-stage vac, all with different specs:

Kev you could try running some of your hot water back into the tank whilst setting up, just put a male fitting on the end of your solution hose. Just raising the temp by a few degrees can make a marked difference.
-
hi just out intrest i know the ninjas vacs pull 230 cfm what is the figure for the mighty? the ninja set up is one standerd 3 stage vac and one heavy duty 3 stage vac and are mounted in series ( )these are 5.7inch vacs , two 5.7 3 satage vacs in paraellel only hav a lift of 135cfm also the mighty i saw had vacs in series
-
Just checked with supplier, they say that each vac on the speedster draws 6.8 amps, so you couldn't run two off one power cord. If both vacs on the Ninja are running off one power cord, as well as the pump, then they can't be as powerful.
I wouldn't pay too much attention to the manufacturers CFM claims, if you compare them against each other, someone has to be telling porkies somewhere!
-
hi , all i can say from an end users opion that when i had a demo of both machines i thought the ninja had better suck over the mytee and better heat , but thats just how they came across to me
regards paul

Nice one Kev looks good.
-
Nice set up. Good to see some pics of truckmounted portys.
I was wondering about cable extensions, are they fixed down and you just pull them out with the hoses? And presumably they are c.50ft + so you don't need a plug joining them ouside in the weather?
Mike

Not this one again ::)
Yes the Ninja has better suction/ water lift. The 230 number that you quote is Hg not cfm. I have a Ninja - top spec. I run 120' length 1.5" diameter hose all the time from the van (at least a third of it coiled in the van) :o and it cleans and dries the carpets and upholstery just fine because I use CFR tools and they're air flow optimised. Otherwise I'd be leaving soggy furnishings behind all the time - that said, when I get round to it I want to get the vacuum mounts used in the Mytee Speedster so that I can run parallel instead of in series. On long hose runs CFM and larger bore Vac hose is always better, not lift.
This was clearly demonstrated at Excel last year by 'the bearded one' on the Solutions stand. If you cover the hose completely with your hand then yes vac motors in series pull very hard indeed, however insert your fingers INTO the end of 100' hose and there's WAY more airflow going on with parallel vacs as opposed to in series.

yes nice setup, but not to sure about them ext leads dont look as if they can can take the power
-
where did you get that ramp from good idea ;D :-\
-
hi alan dont no what hg is but the ninja has 230iinches of water lift, and the mytee i saw def had the vacs in series, also when i asked the brains of these machine y they made the third vac go throw the exhasut outlet and not out the lid they said that all these vacs work a lot better under strain ie pulling throw each other
p.s when u hav the wand on the floor its going to suck harder so i would hav thought seriers is better what u say about airflow being greater might be right but only when its off the floor in parrelell
-
We'll agree to disagree then ;D
I've used Ashby's equipment for years and found them to blow some other manufacturers out of the water on idea's and build quality but after many years of following what a manufacturer decides is best you realize that sometimes even they can make bad judgement calls. But only on the vac motor placement front ;)
Best regards
Alan

where did you get the side rack system for the chemicals?

Spickandspan
Cheers!
Mike, Paul
The extensions are fairly heavy duty, but not bolted down yet. Yeh I just draw them out with the hose and they are 40m long! Ive checked with the max power on them and they can take approx 3200watts each, so will take it easily. Because the power in the Mytee is divided (one vac and pump on one and the other vac and heaters on the other) its fine. The Mytee comes with bog off leads but they are attached which is a pain (cos they are so long), so I cut them shorter and made extension leads!. Had it runing with the blue extension leads and its fine.
Terry, Scott
The ramp and racking was done when I had my franchise. I believe that for this + the original signage was about £1,500.00 (although I have got a dodgy memory!)

Kev you could try running some of your hot water back into the tank whilst setting up, just put a male fitting on the end of your solution hose. Just raising the temp by a few degrees can make a marked difference.
Sorry for being a bit thick, but what do you mean? Do you mean connect a short solution hose (with no fitting at the other end, run the pump with both heaters on and let it flow into the tank? if so whats the male connector for?
-
Yes you can just do that. What I meant was to use your existing hose and plug a male connector into the female on the end to allow the water to flow, thats assuming you have a female on the end if not just do it the other way round. This is handy to get the temp up quite a bit especially if you've had water sitting in the tank overnight.
-
Ok, thanks for the info John.
-
HOW MUCH IS THE MYTEE ??
-
dont look nothing like the mytee to me
-
My extension leads have thermal cutouts. If I don't unwind them fully every time, they cut out. Took me a few minutes scratching my head to figure out the first time. They weren't hot at all, but it's something worth watching, you don't want your shiney van going up in smoke.
-
Mike
the only reason that they were not hot was because the thermal cut outs were activated. Without the cut outs they would have been toast.
All extension cables drums should be extended fully when any high current is being used.
The coils of wire on the drum react just like a transformer and current is inducted through the surrounding coils producing heat.
Hope this explains the situation.
-
So lets say the ramp was £500, the machine £2500, extra hose etc £400, water tank and pump £400. Getting close to £4000. Another two grand or so would get a small TM with lots more power.
No knocking because I too went down this road big time a few years ago but the £££ do add up.
Love to see is all working though.
Mark

A small truckmount aint no good when you've got to park down the road or you're working on the penthouse suite ;D.
You're always a winner with the power and extra's on the latest Super Porty's! CANNOT see the point of truckmounting now even though I was considering it!

Mike, Comfort Sector
My extensions have cut outs, and I do fully unwind them! thanks for the concern though.
Mark
Appreciate what your saying, but I wanted a high powered porty to enable me to still do apartments etc! The ramp was fitted nearly 5yrs ago when I had a franchise, so no cost while setting this new one up.
Just out of interest, got my reel today (a mini-me proper truckmount reel) will get sorted in the next week and will post a pic (its only just under 13inches wide and will take 150ft of inch & half!! only cost £30.00 second hand from a TM owner ;D ;D

hi
vac motors we all started many years ago with single vac portys
then came twin vac parrel or in series
at this point in series was probably better
but then came three vacs and people using longer hose
and trying to truck mount a porty
the point i am trying to make, is i still have a 2 stage single vac machine that i use weekly on jobs that are small or apartments
granted with a short hose, but still get good results and happy customers
the need for for more power from a porty is just turning it into a electric truck mount.
recently read some where someone talking about porty with 4 vacs just seems crazy to me.
theres a post on here today someone asking is a vax any good
and i agree odd spill ok, but i could clean someones lounge with one and give them a great result and a bet so could a lot of others, so this need for more power and bigger machines just baffles me.
always gets me on most portys 60 litre tanks i did a hall stairs and landing through lounge today, (typical job) only used 28 litres, and on average domestic jobs this is all you need or less, run out you fill it again so why not make a nice porty instead of great big hard to move portys.bigger is not always better
darren

That's got to be around 35 square Metres of carpet. You can't have flushed much dirt out with only 28 litres of water, and if you're using enough hose then you shouldn't need to move it on the job anyway. You shouldn't be dragging your machine around inside someones home. Stale, damp air, possibly clouting the odd wall, and accidents do happen - what if you lost your balance at the top of a flight of stairs with the machine half full?
Alan
-
alan where abouts you from
-
Surrey. - Near South Croydon
-
im in doncaster
lets set it up you against me
you do half a carpet me the other
and compare drying times dirt ect
before you say it cost too high to do
am sure lads on here will put a quid or two in
to see this, be a good night
am well up for it
darren
or if thats too diffucult we could ask ncca if we could have half hour and let them and class pull us to bits
or are you internet bully
-
:o ??? Easy. Why the paranoia? ::) I like to keep my customers. That's why I choose not to drag heavy equipment across their carpets. MANY years ago I started out with a splash 'n dash crew to learn the ropes and get into the industry before I knew of formal training institutes. I got out as quickly as I could because they operated in the way that you're describing. - Low end equipment in the home, up the stairs and so on. The odd ding in the wall as the stairs turn at the top. The occasional undiscovered leak from the machine onto a jute backed carpet. Hot hoses lying directly across synthetic fibres leaving heat set marks on carpet and furniture, oops I just took a chunk out of the white painted banister - Where's the tippex?
Sorry bud, find someone more local to you that has a high spec porty to compare results? Clearly too much time on your hands, I have a company to run.

thing is the old single vac machines were 3 stage 180mm they were more powerful than the 3 stage 145mm ones found in twin vac machines, try using a twin vac machine with one vac, its way to weak,
so when twin vac machines came out it was not double the power, yes it has 2 vacs, but its 2 smaller vacs, a fact i've not heard anyone mention.
this is what i cant understand why start making 3 vac machines with the little 145's ?
why not make a twin vac with the bigger 180's ?
that woud have some kick!
-
It looks to me like there are numerous differant vac motors on the market. The manufacturers seem to talk about the number of vac motors in the machine as a selling point. When as someone has just said the important nunbers are the airflow & pressure.
Got to agree with Alan. Would be very reluctant to bring the machine indoors unless there was no other option.
-
Thankyou oh intelligent and 'still to be in business for many years to come' one ;)
Got a point about the single vac motor size thoug. I'll look into that one, although, ever in search of huge CFM - Dont you think the likes of Mytee have already done their homework? If you were a manufacturer seeking or claiming to sell the most powerful (cfm) twin vac porty to date .....
Alan
-
Going slightly off topic. I personally cannot see where having huge CFM is of any use as this figure is always quoted while the airflow is unrestricted. When do we ever clean carpets with the wand off the carpet. To the guys that say the wand should be slightly off the carpet to keep air flow going. I ask you why don't wand manufacturers
make wand that way. Maybe I have got it wrong but I have yet to hear an arguement to convince me.
I would of thought that the air flow that can be maintained while the wand is on the carpet ( restricted ) would be a far more useful measure of performance.
