Hi folks and happy new year. I'm in the south east where the bulk of my cleaning work is on peoples houses for which i charge £10.50 p.h. I have 1 small office cleaning contract which is a 1 man job and takes a cople of hours for which i charge £12 p.h. The opportunity has come up to clean a couple of doctors surgeries of an evening which is bigger than my other jobs and the pricing of which is difficult for me to gauge. The client is willing to pay for 4 hours work a night total for both sites and employing myself and 1 other person. Does £12 p.h for myself and £10 for my mate sound about right as i am supplying all the gear and he will be working on a self employed basis. Also the surgery will be wanting me to machine clean the safety flooring on an as needed basis. What sort of price per hour should i be charging for this bearing in mind i already have the machine etc to do the job? Hope someone can advise me, Pete.

Not quite sure what you mean by your costings - do you intend on paying someone £10 per hour to work for you?
I would not think about how much you want to be paid for working and how much you want to give your mate - think of it as a job where you have to advertise for staff you don't know. Average pay rate would be approx £6 per hour add on your materials, NI (although you shouldn't have any with the low hours still put it on as when you grow someone full time may take the position), Holiday pay, P&EL insurance costs, machinery, uniform, admin and anything else you can think of as an overhead then add your profit on and that will bring you out at your quote.

I am presuming you mean that you charge the client £12 ph and you then pay the operative from this, probably around £6/7 per hour?
We charge £9.50 - £11.00ph for domestic cleaning and £11.50-£13 ph for commercial for one cleaner so going by that that sounds about right.
Holiday pay is the one that always jumps up and catches us unawares. While on the subject try not to take on small jobs that just want one day a week if it is a monday - it is a nightmare to work out holiday and what to charge the client due to all the bank holidays.

I am a bit like you unsure of where to start, but I have just gone for it and prayed. I work on the figure of how much I need to meet my costs etc then add a bit, that seems to work for me. I have just asked on here about prices and didn't get very much response really, but I dont blame people as we are all in competition with each other.

I think the problem is that prices vary as to what part of the country you operate in, i have know prices for office cleaning be as low as £8-£9.00 per hour (and that's paying someone else to do it!!)
In our neck of the woods its between £13-£16 per hour . and we provide all equipment and supplies, with consumables (t.rolls, soap, etc extra) But there will always be someone ready to undercut you with an inferior price and service, so long as what you provide is an excellent service, don't sell your self short!
