A window cleaner in my area wears a miners lamp , you can see him working after 5 pm in the dark and just the light shining from the light on  his head.
But not at the moment as he has fallen off his ladder and  damaged his knee quite badly

he should get some runway lights up his ladder then so he don't fall off ;)

It has started (Dec 21st/22nd), but is slow at first and for some reason the evenings draw out quicker than the mornings.

Here in Bristol the sun sets about 4.20pm instead of 4pm but the sunrise is not much different at 8.16.

By the first week in Feb you'll be able to work until 5pm.

When the clocks "go forward" at the end of March you'll really notice the difference in the evenings.

It was fairly light here in West Somerset at 4.30 tonight but dark by 5.00.

You will soon be working ok at 5.00

Roll on Spring!

I have worked many times when its been dark last thing in the day just to get a road finished but you do get some funny looks
I hate it this time of year its dark when you go out to work and dark when you get home

I split the year up into four.
Midwinter is the darkest day (around the 21st Dec)
Midsummer is the lightest (around 21st June)
Equinox is equal day and night (21st March and 21st October)

In other words, its getting lighter (thank god!)

As soon as the shortest day  (21st Dec) is over the days start to get longer. This continues until 21st Jun (which is the longest day) and then they start getting shorter again.
Look in the back of your diary as they often list sunrise and sunsets for each week of the year

Somone told me that from the 21st December (the shortest day of the year), that you get two minutes extra daylight per day.
