Title: Search Engine Optimisation
Post by: Neil Gott on January 02, 2007, 07:40:05 am
I want to register my website with the Open Directory (dmoz.org). Can anybody suggest a good category to be in. There doesn't seem to be one for cleaning services.

Don't waste your time mate...find out how to implant the html into the head section of your site, and submit to google, or just go onto google adwords....quicker, if you want to get to the top of the search engine,...but if you live near me....forget i suggested it ;D
Seriously...if it's advertising on the net youre interested in...type in "adwords" into google...and take it from there....it's the only advertising iv'e done over the past 2 years, and it works.

Hello, Martin. Yes, I'm still plodding along.

I don't post very often, as I am too busy messing about with my website. Must try cleaning a carpet some time.

I am already at the top of page one for most search enquiries (even above the dreaded directories), but I want to stay there, and I was advised by Business Link (a chap who was involved with setting up Amazon's site) to register with Dmoz. as part of that strategy.

I had lots of other useful advice in a free one to one two hour meeting. My own advice to anybody wanting business help, is to get in touch with your local Business Link people.

Neil  (Grainger)

I've emailed you.
Just realised...I cover your area ;D just about...only the north part of Hampshire...I'm guessing you cover most of Hampshire then?   We dont encourage too many calls from your area though as it is quite a way...Been down as far as ecchinswell, south of Newbury though...glad I had Satnav...that's all I'll say.

Hi Scott

Cheers for the e-mail. My area is really Guildford to Basingstoke but most of the work is around Fleet and Camberley.

Where are you based?

Thanks again for the advice on adwords.

Cheers

Neil

Much the same as me. I'm 1/2 a mile from Surrey Hampshire and Berkshire. Nightmare for advertising though. Cost a fortune for Yellow Pages.

However, you'll find it impossible to submit to DMOZ at the moment due to "hardware failure". Apparently the submission bit has been broken since October and no one has fixed it yet:
