Am I losing the plot, or is what I saw the other day, common practice these days?...I was doing a one bed flat, and another company was at the same block, also doing a small one bed, on the next floor....correct me if I'm being synical, but there were 2 guys with 2 rather large portables turned up to do this flat!...I had bearly enough room to swing a squirell.. Is this not rather over the top and a waste of rescources, or something did not quite strike me as being right about it.
-
why would it be wrong. 2 machines + 2 men = faster job times = more work = more profit
-
what about 2 men, different locations...more room...more profits...where you one of those guys? ;D...I was finished at the same time as them, so your theory is debatable...that being the case..2 men in different locations, taking the same time, roughly= X 2...is more in my book.....just seemed like using a shotgun to kill a wasp...if you know what I mean.

maybee one o upholstery and one on carpets I use a duel tool machine and can fly some jobs that way

In the past we always worked as a two person team and the outcome, was.....
we found that two people ( working effectively ) could get through the work in one third of the time, it would take one person.
We worked this way for several years
robbie .
What is "scourcing"
-
i can not see how anyone can make more money as a two man team, you got to do double the work consistently every day.
i think it would be the oppisite, you'd earn alot less.
-
Me and my brother always work separately unless its a large job or as was mentioned there is also some upholstery work involved.
We tried working together on every job and you certainly don't do double the amount, in fact you can slow each other down by getting in each others way etc.
In different locations you definitely do get twice the work accomplished. 8)
Can't see the point of setting up two machines for a small flat ::)

Robbie...
dont worry, the spelling error has been corrected "over Resourcing"...in this context, would mean "over using your resources unecassarily"...if you get the drift.
I'm glad im not the only one that thinks this..2 machines, 2 hoses, 2 fat blokes in a small flat, with the occupants....weird...and No..it was just the carpet... as I was talking to the owner afterwards.... They turned up 4 hrs late too. ;D

your right Scott its rediculous! even if i had someone with me with there own machine i still only have one in there, i'd tell other guy to keep me filled and prespay ahead of me,
Craig.
PS. hows it going Scott? you not been on for a while.
-
Craig, just coz you run a two man outfit dosent mean they have to be on the same wages as you ;)
But to the point, yes its just making there own life harder.
I work as a 2 man team but rarely use 2 machines, theres more to cleaning than just spraying and sucking, its far more productive to have the other guy filling and emptying and moving furniture etc.
-
I'm sure you wouldn't be able to plug both machines in, would'nt it just keep blowing the fuses.
I agree 2 people/machines in a 1 bed flat is a bit over the top.

Craig.
What are you gibbering about, two people who work effectively ( and I'm not talking about working in a tiny flat ) can and should get through the work of, three, working alone.
We've done it, for years, but the money was not being divided up, we worked together, as a partnership and could handle 5-6 jobs per day.
How you come to the conclusion that it would need double the work I fail to understand. As I've mentioned, we got through the volume of work, that it would have taken three people to do, working alone.
This only works for people who can and do work effectively together, admittedly, such people and working partnerships are in the minority, but we did it, very successfully.

thats right Robbie you need to do 5-6 jobs a day, but why? unless you just enjoy employing people.

Fine mate....gave it a rest on here for a while....got other interests, besides cc, and was just getting into radios again, as im also an amateur radio operator too...so was hanging around those forums instead....theres more to life than wands and pile brushes ;D

It's possible that they were part of a larger firm who didn't have too much work on that day.
To send two people instead of one would mean the job would get done quicker (=happier customer) but wouldn't cost the boss any more as the cleaners were possibly on a fixed wage.

where do i say you was talking about the present ? or what have i said that suggests i thought that ?
as it happens i learnt alot off other carpet cleaners, the ones that give good advice.
the trick is knowing who to take advice from ;) ;D

Your quote.
" that's right robbie , you need to do 5-6 jobs a day, but why? unless you just enjoy employing people "
The working partnership I referred to, was some years ago and for the past 5-6 years I've decreased my workload annually, as I am a long time sufferer of Sciatica, Arthritis and more recently, Spinal compression, any one of which should have stopped me doing this work, but even after a hip replacement, I returned to c/c, but about 5 months ago, I suffered a heart attack and only take on light work, nowadays.
I tend to respond to posts, according to how I read them and if you find my comments unhelpful that's sad as I only write from experience

hi, when i first started in carpet cleaning i had a partner and we work together from one van ,alhough we had a laugh it wasnt prouductive , for example we would hav to do 6 jobs to earn say 100 pounds each and be out allday and half time only one was working, weres if we had gone out sept we strill earn 100 pounds and be home by 12 , now if the other persons was working for u that be a diffrent story , as for blowing fuses for plugging two machines it would if u pluged all four into one socket !! as u would be drawing over 12000 watts from one socket and would prob set the socket alight lol i reg plug in four sockets (to seperate sockets) and hav never blown a fuse , the max draw for a socket is i think 3200 watts
gary
p.s robbie must hav bin doing very large jobs all the time or comm jobs
