After being told by Craftex that it wouldn't be possible to put a bigger pump on this machine I set about proving them wrong.
Thank you to Vernon at Masterclean for supplying me with a spanking new 250 psi pump with induction motor at a very reasonable price. Plus all of his excelent after sales help.
Anybody who knows this machine will notice the pump housing cover has been replaced by one that i made to fit over the motor. Also I have done away with the socket supplying juice for the in line heater. The pump is very noticibly more powerful than the shurflow 135 psi that came out. Will be testing it on the job tommorrow.
If anyone at Craftex is reading You guys really should get your act together.Had you been more helpful, it may have been your till ringing to the price of a new pump and not somebody elses.

hi
whats the size of the pump compared to the old one what was the price
cheers nick

i also spoke to vernon about doing this to an alltec machine, Vernon explained everything to me, and told me that it was possible, which made me think why do Alltec only sell machines with only 100psi ? and why not an optional extra of these pumps ?
is it because they have to go to Vernon to buy them, lol.
Pleased to hear you done it successfully Nevil, never got round to it myself.
this was the one for alltec machine £360 (with fittings) 200 psi
is this the one you fitted Nevil ?

No, similar but that one doesn't have the induction motor.
Strangly Craig Craftex can now supply the Grace with a 400psi pump, It's the same machine but with a bigger pump and some other extras. Yet they don't supply the pump as an upgrade kit. And tell me it can't be done. The machine has served me well for two years ( never serviced ) I should squeeze a little more life from it yet.

Nick
The pump is a bit bigger maybe half the size again as the old one,but it has the blue section attached to the motor as shown in Craigs picture. This makes it impossible to mount it in the same plane as the shurflo. It cost somewhere in the £400 ball court.

this one... ?

It certainly looks like it, although I see that one is the 200psi pictured on the carpet cleaning world website. The one I have is a 250 psi. It may be that its the same one. Vernon tells me that it could produce more than 250 psi but may wear out mquicker.
The bypass has a valve that can be adjusted which I believe determines the pressure at which water is recirculated back into the tank.

Just a quick update on the upgraded machine. I had a badly trashed end of tenancy flat to clean today, the machine was fantastic, like a differant machine. I found that I was able to move the wand much quicker than before. I don't have a pressure gauge but there is a lot of adjustment left to give even more pressure, but I need to be sure pipes and fittings will handle it.
Water cosumption was a lot higher and being a smarty pants I thought I would fill the machine with a hose from the kithcen sink and use the few minutes to get on with some pre spraying. :( oops water all over lino in kitchen luckily not to much and the machine made quick work of clearing up.
Just one final thought, For too long I have been saying that my machine is good enough, but now I have improved it and although I won't go so far as to sy I can deliver a better service. I certainly can offer a faster service.

Great. £400 though for a pump?
Did you consider reducing the jet sizes on your wand?
-
Yes I did, but I already have 0.1 jets and as far as I know smaller ones are not available.
-
i think 01 s are to small for carpets. also thats reducing volume it'nt it?
i think 04's the norm for carpets and upholstery is 02's, i may be wrong.

It will effect flow, and yes volume of water put on the carpet, and if the pump can't produce enough flow it can also reduce pressure significantly.
I would think it depends on how many jets your wand has, if it's one I would think it would need to be more than a 0.1. Mine has three. if I could put smaller ones on I would.
I have never tried anything other than the 0.1 jets so I really don't know, but I am more than happy with the quality of the work I am doing.
