Post by: macmac on December 16, 2006, 08:41:51 am
hi all
i'm converting from standard to smaller hose but not sure which to go for i.e. - microbore (6mm id) or minibore (8mm id).i will require 60m length and run system from van (if this makes any difference).

which do you use? is there much difference between 6mm and 8mm?

thanks

tony

I use 100m of yellow 6mm id minibore off a metal hose reel straight out of the van.

Can't fault the stuff!

We find that the flow rate from a reel of microbore (6mm ID) is just about spot on.

hhmmm, how many of you guys have actually used minibore?  personally i have used microbore for about 2 years and then changed to minibore for the last 6 months - will I change back, no.  Better flow over 100m putting a lot less stress on the pump, however I never had a problem with microbore but would still rather stick with the 8mm.

Hmmmmmmmmmm, i'm swaying again, 6mm or 8mm?
if you look on cleantech website they sell 8mm minibore, but the way they describe it, it's like people have been having problems with 6mm, so this is the answer, just what you've been looking for etc.etc.

any more minibore users out there?? ??? ??? ???

still, thanks for all replies so far guys :)

hi i use 8mm microbore which i assume is similar to minibore works well used to use microbore 6mm which worked fine too so i don't think their is a great deal of difference but i think its up to the individual users preference?   ::);D ;D

i did notice the pump does not seem to struggle quite as much with the sightly wider bore though i did have a job  getting 100m of the 8mm pipe on the reel but once it broke in it was fine prefer using it now ;D

I've recently converted to 100m of 8mm minibore.  No problems at all, haven't had to make any adjustments to the varistream.

I bought 100m microbore and varistream with a 100psi pump,
I haven't used it yet but have been reading this post with interest.

hi

Changed to minibore from Hozelock 1/2" professional a month ago and will never go back to the larger diamt hose. Went for minibore because it puts the pump under less strain I was told by the experts.

It has easily saved me half an hour a day of messing around with the other stuff tangling up - its much easier to pull out and wind up.
100 metres goes on a hose reel  - it's expensive but just do it.
Would recommend it everytime.

Minibore for me, however i have an overflow that goes back to the tank, so no pressure on the pump at all.

Am using 8mm id and have never used 6mm id but 8mm is way better than normal 1/2 inch hose....much lighter and does not snag or kink.

Cheers
Dave.

I'm exactly the same as you when it comes to minibore. I have 120metres of minbore and have changed down from a 100psi pump to a 75 psi pump and can still clean 6storey windows alright without losing pressure although it is only slightly heavier to pull the full 120m up a steep hill. Microbore is very good but minibore suits my preference for the jobs I do.

It seems that it is 'horses for courses'. Although, for most people a microbore based set-up works well, as there are more microbore users out there than minibore users.

We have supplied well over 300 users with microbore over the last couple of years.

I changed from 50 metres standard hose to100 metres of 6mm and find it great.

Very light, hasn't kinked yet and with the 2mm jets in the brushes good pressure and have turned the Varistream down slightly.

Wish i had used it from day one.
