quick question, had my carpet (12x14) and 2 seater 3 piece suite cleaned today guy
arrived with his truck mount system at 1.30 finished at 3.00 said suite would need 24
hours too dry carpet 5/6 hours
Q1, is 1.5 hours long enough too do a good job
Q2, are these drying times longer than you would expect
by the way he charged me £95 which i thought was ok but still a £1 a minute
-
Were you happy with the cleaning result and how wet would you describe the items
Regards Rob.

still wet now so not sure if suite will look better in the morning but seems patchy at the moment i just wondered if he had saved him self some time by leaving it wetter than he should have.
thanks for the reply

I can't clean a suite in under two hours and I've cleaned many suites in the last thirty years! I can't see how anyone can clean a suite and carpet in one and a half hours and do a good job.
-
Sounds like a rush job to me, would take me twice that amount of time to do a good job, I know I use a portable, but surely a TM cant be twice as fast.

Hi, first post but here goes, i couldnt do a suite in less than 3 hrs and a lounge carpet less than 2 properly. although he was using a truck mount seems like very much a rush job. wait till the suite drys to c the result. cheers.
-
freshfloor, it takes you 2hrs to clean a lounge carpet, you must be very thorough ;)
old beach, how dirty was your suite? our local franchise quote 24hrs on suite drying and 6hrs on a wet day isn't totally unreasonable.

Likewise I cannot clean a three piece in under three hours after thirty years of trying...
Over all, in this particular instance, I would reckon to be on site for at least four hours

Same here, 4 hours!

no ones mentioned some suits easier than others, one 3 peice could take me 2 hours some counld be done in 1 hour and lounge carpet because your now already set up would only take 20 mins,
times taken for these jobs is quick, but not an indication of crap job.
also drying times given are realistic and correct.
lets not slag off this guy on half the facts. .

You got an excellent price.
As Robert says do not judge job until its dry.
Drying times do vary.Like when you hang your washing outside after being through Spin Drier etc.
I think most of us would have took longer but charged you more.
-
yes, i agree thats cheap you could normally expect to pay £150 +
i have to admit i would allow 2,1/2 hrs for this,
however if it was a acrylic velvet of some sort ?, there very easy and quick to clean.

hi all
have too say carpet and suite look fine, not perfect but good enough.
still not quite dry though.
thanks very much for your reply's

Would you have paid more for them to be perfect if indeed perfection was possible in your case.
£95 does seem cheap but then at £60 an hour thats good money. For those that take 4 hours would you have charged £240?
For me all things being average it would have taken 2.5-3hours and the charge would be £165.

My price would be £180.00/200.00
I dont worry how long it takes!

It takes me and my father about 3 hours to do a 3 peice suite & lounge carpet properly, we could of course forget about pre-vac, agitating, dry stokes and towelling to shave an hour or so off but preffer the better results these stages bring. Out of the 3 hours one of us is ussualy stood idle for about 30-40 mins but we use this time to go and do some flyers or clean down some of our equipment, so all in all id say we would spend 5 hours & 20 mins (man hours) to do this job, but we get loads of work from referalls, the reduced advertising pays for the extra time taken imho.

old beeches what area are you in? I know a company who performs like this and would like a good guess at it
-
would have set up for suite first and spent hours with set up, lounge carpet would have been an hour as already set up, but would have charged about £140.00.
You got a cheap price, and probably a quick job. You get what you pay for. Saying that if it looks great once dried and still looks good a few months away, then count your blessing

Beeches in the name might be a give away here!!

What like Cornwall maybe ?
-
No north west. bane cleaners, they`ve taken on 2 lads, one days training just for xmas rush..............this was common there ::)
-
£95 is cheap that is why you are happy with the price!
You can't expect a top end job, please look at th eprices quoted on this thread and you'll see what some other professionals offer and charge.
You'll only spend what you want or can afford but for £95 you'll only get £95's worth of work.
I don't think he's ripped you off, I just think you got what you paid for.IMO

Yep, general concensus right - you get what you pay for. I'm sure if he spent longer on it (and you more money), he would probably have had most of the furniture dry. He's probably only given the service for what he was paid. Seems fair enough to me. But like evryone says, you'll have to wait until they are fully dry.
We would have charged approx £220.00 with probably 2 of the units dry.
