Sorry if I missed it but how are you getting on with getting wfp Roger?
-
He's saving up for one I think!
-
No, saving for presents, time off, road tax, income tax...etc...etc...
Expensive couple of months. :(
Doubt I'll even think about before the summer.
With all the moaning about it on here I may not bother at all.
People stressing about a day or two off...clearly costing too much to run. ::)
-
hey you got it in one ;D
-
mine carnt cost to much to run just bought an X5 couldn't of done that working on ladders

Not me Rog. ;D.
I switched a year ago. All my work is completed on time every 4 weeks since i changed. In the summer it was fantastic, what took a week trad took me 3-3.5 days. Got loads done at home on my extension this year.
But to be honest with you its this time of year i would say it realy pays for itself. Even better i'm not up ladders in the wind & gusts, no worries about ladders slipping.
About 3 years ago a mate tryed talking me into switching to wfp, every thing you say is what i said, wfp, cr*p, if only i listened.
If they banned wfp, there's no way i would go back on ladders.
As for your comment above, when i'm sitting at home & most are at work & i see my pride & joy sitting in the drive doing nothing, knowing my work is up to date & i've taken extra on, i know the investment is paying for itself, making me more money & giving me time off.

Fair enough Macc, but why is only the polers who get worried about time off?
???
I can make enough not to worry about it.
-
I think its because us "polers" have gone soft. LOL.
Do whats right for you Rog, it got to the point where i hated ladders & wc. It was the right decision for me. I'm lucky it worked out because i dived in with the van & all the kit but its paid off for me.
The only advise i can give is give it loads of thought, if you decide to go for it, the 1st 6 months are a night mare, but then it only gets better.
All the best mate. ;D

That's the reason I'd consider it.
I get fed up with it, and it would be like a new job.
I've no problem with my technique, and I know I do a very good job.
It does get boring though. :-\

I reckon what happens is that we live to our new standard of income and so when we lose time we get concerned about our income. (So if we earned £15K and spent £15k then the worry is the same if we earn and spend ...say... £30K)
The trick is to earn £30K and spend £20K!
:) I'm still working on that one!
-

Because, when doing trad work, a day off could lose them maybe £60 or so. Doing wfp, a day off could lose them, in some areas £300 and more!
Perhaps those are extreme figures, but realistic.
There's an argument in favour of both: The trad w/c has £60 less for the day, so not much to worry about. The wfp user may have £300 less for the day, so worries far more than is needed!
Why worry?
I still use both methods almost every day. My ladder days were over before I started wfp. After 19 years up and down the ladder, for me personally, my knees and feet and heart wouldn't stand any more. But I'm back doing 2 and 3 storey buildings in weather that I wouldn't have considered working in when I was just a lad in my thirties! ;D
-
Stick with it squeaky.
I couldn't earn enough trad so I had to go WFP, but you of can earn enough and happy going up ladders then why bother.

£60 a day trad? Come on, anybody could manage £100 a day trad surely.
-
If you work a FULL day,you can earn alot more than £100 trad. All depends on your prices

Squeaks is pretty cheap mind. I was once asked to give a quote and quoted 15 quid, which was a fair price. The guy's mouth dropped and he said, 'but my current window cleaner only charges me 6.50!'. Needless to say I didn't get (nor want) this job (some people >:().
I didn't know he had a window cleaner already when he asked me to quote and some months later I saw Squeaky cleaning this place.
It made me smile. ;D
-
time to up the prices squeeky!! you only charge him £6.50 and he was still asking other wcs for a quote!! maybe time to change your squeegee rubber too!!
-
Please remember Tosh talks a load of rubbish about me guys. ::)
I charge £6.50, him £15?
Either he's got my price wrong, or he's an enormous wfp rip-off.
I have my bets on the latter...
I did £51 in an hour and a quarter this morning, so obviously I need to increase my prices. ::)
-
£51 in an hour and a quarter - trad? bet you couldn't manage that all day.
ps its lashing down here so staying in today.
-

Ok fair enough, it was shops. ;D
I can do at least half that rate all day though.
-
thats still not bad going - although you lot on the mainland are all able to charge a lot more than we can get away with here. Average price for a 3 bed semi is £1.20 :P

I swear on my holy underpants it's true! Top end of Hardwick Avenue. I've several of the houses there.
Hands up all those who turned over less than 15K last year! ;D
-

I was right then.
You're taking the pee out of people.
Those are 10 minutes max per house, and they're old folk.
2 easy squeegee bays, and a window on the front.
3 windows on the back.
I can do 4 in a row in about 35 mins.
If you want £15 for one of them, then that's disgusting. ::)
I defy anyone on here to suggest otherwise.
Hands up all those who need to work all hours and even weekends to make ends meet. ;D

I would of agreed with Squeaks on this one untill 11;30 today when I had a Business meeting with the nice people down at link.....According to them I should not feel bad about putting a higher price in for my work as they have seen it and think I should charge more I too am trad but am going over to the Dark Side in the New Year as well as trad, not instead of......
-

Hey, I would've cleaned all the windows, including the ones you miss; such as the 2nd floor doormers!
And anyway, rice pudding is disgusting.
-

Not unless you did it trad mate.
You can't pole half the back ones! ;D
They don't want the top loft windows done either. ???
I don't know why you continually bring this rubbish up when I've said so many times before...they're no good for wfp. ::)

Squeaks.....stop biting. You know he does it to see you bite. CHILLOUT in the knowledge that he must be jealous of you cos he keeps trying to wind you up ;)
X5 - or any other car for that matter. Its a matter of choice. Some people spend their dosh on houses, others on holidays, some on cars. I'll not knock anyone for their bit of well earned pleasure.

Ah, Squeaks is 'easy sport'. I personally prefer winding Ross or Art up, since they're both Sweaties.
But they're getting tough fish to get a bite from these days.
-
Your a good one to wind up too Tosh. I know I've got you when you get a little touchy in your replies. How I love to wind people up.
-
You should of bought it Roy, You only live once mate ;)
D woods,
You know mate, that how it is with most things and people in this country but more so in the cleaning industry.
I think jealousy in the w/c industry is because we network allot, more so than any other trade so the room for it is always there. If you think about it, all w/c's talk to each other allot, and even go out of there way to introduce themselves etc I doubt builders wouldn’t do that. Or most other trades either.
Also with all these trade shows and different methods of w/c it all adds to the jealousy, who has better work, who has bigger commercial even down to wfp systems
Id rather be the envied than the envious though ;)

your way off the mark with that statement, Im a carpenter by trade, and worked in the building game all my life (apart from the last 4 years) builders are allways networking, thats what the builders merchant is for ;)
from a personal point of view, i spoke to more builders than window cleaners, it seems window cleaners dont want to speak, afterall your a rival and enemy ::) thus you just get evil stares

Guys,
As interesting as this ramble about cars is, this isn't the section for it.
On topic fella's or it gets locked.
