Got my van - now what do I get put on it to attract profitable business?
I thought about things such as (not my company name, but what I do):-
"High Quality Window Cleaning"
"Leaded lights and Georgian panes a speciality"
"Commercial and Domestic"
A picture of a shiny window?
plus a mobile phone no.
Any thoughts - and what about how to get it done.
-
yes all the above but also your company name so that people will remember you and reccomend
-
And your logo if you have one, people seem to remember logo's better then names.
-
Don't make it too cluttered, keep it simple, people need to know in an instant what it is you do, and what you are is a WINDOW CLEANER.
Then they need to get your contact number at a glance too.
Those are the two main things that need to stand out and grab you.
Your company name needs to be there of course, but don't put too much info on there, it detracts from the main message.
The size of the lettering should be - biggest = what you do and your phone number.
next = perhaps your company name and perhaps how you work - Water Fed Pole, or ladderless window cleaning or (as in my case) Pure water window cleaning or any other idea that you think makes what you have on your van unique.
Drive around and look at other vans, and see how many are going around that takes you ages to work out whether they are a plumber, a sparky or any other trade.
Some can look dead smart and fancy, but by the time you've worked out what it is they do you're passed them.
Take your time Malc, don't rush into it to quickly!

keep it simple.
on my van I have:
A Logo
MacLeod Window Cleaning
and a contact number
People are stupid. I had someone come up to me as I was by the van working and say:
do you do window cleaning
i looked at the van, pointed and said "Yes I am a Window Cleaner"
they said whats your number
i looked at the van and pointed and said "01234 567 890"
they said "oh yeah, thanks"
Keep it simple. Big Lettering.

Malc,
Also put a home contact number on it, and not just a mobile, this way you won't seem like a fly by night wc.

one of my mates, who is a chippy, has a magnetic sheet which is signwritten.
its about 3ft by 2ft and contains all the info etc he needs.
the beauty of it is that you can take it off when not working, its cheaper than signwriting, and you dont have the hassle of getting the stuff off when you sell / trade up your van in the future.
its really thin, and looks like proper sign writing.
just an option, in case you were not aware of them.

anyone recommend where to find a good logo?can you do it yourself or do I have to pay a fortune for a gaphic designer?
-
What sort of logo are you after, traditional , or water fed pole .

But a permanently sign written van should get you a reduce premium on insurance as it's less likely to get nicked.

When I started getting quotes for van insurance I came across a few companies that wouldn't insure a sign written van! I think they were only interested in vans that were being used for private use, not business use (not a massive market!) ???

Im going to be using trad & wfp but logo doesnt need to feature w/c artwork, just has to be eyecatching and easy to remember.

Forget the logo, Just keep it simple "WINDOW CLEANER" and a phone number. Everything else can be added later if you really want to.
