Post by: Jason Atwell on November 27, 2006, 08:40:02 pm
People have said before that there is less than a 1% return on leafleting, is there any one with a rough idea of the avearage return for doorknocking, obviously there is alot of variables but what is arough figure?

when i first started id say 1 in 10-15 when doorknocking. Done a whole day leafleting and had 1 return. Doorknocking is the second best advertising cleaning windows is the first. Thats how you get the work CAN YOU DO MINE PLEASE! ;D

Canvassing is the only thing that truly gets you customers, leaflets are great though to get your name known in the area!

I only had one call back from a leaflet since July hahaha  :-[ (dunno whether to cry or laugh!)

Some areas work better with leaflets, but i think door knocking is better.

You can put across more information to the customer if your face to face plus you can give them a price there and then.

Anyone who isn't in just leave a flyer.

After a while if you do a good job the work will start coming to you from recomendation.

I stopped door knocking etc after about 5 months of starting

I've tried doorknocking and leafletting.  As stated, door knocking is far superior in terms of converting to work but you do get to cover more houses with leafletting.  I have had people see me window cleaning before and ask me to clean theirs.  If I ask if they saw my leaflet a few weeks or so before, they often say that they like to see who they are getting first (presumably to assess character etc).

Knock, Knock and Knock again is my experience.

The thing is it's easy to get discouraged when after 1/2 an hr of knocking you've had: "Got one" or "No thanks" or just no reply....don't give up! Often if you move onto the next street you find they ain't got no w/c and then suddenly 10 houses gives 3 or 4 jobs and suddenly it all becomes worthwhile.

Forget the leaflets....people like to see a face with a friendly open smile....after all you're gonna be on their property/in their house.
