Been phoning around today as my insurance runs out in 2 days time and my renewal went up 400 pounds :'( and most companies I phone say sorry your a window cleaner, we cant insure you >:(
I said we dont use ladders and work 100% from the ground, but it seems that does not count :-\
Anyone know off any insurance companies that take into consideration that we work from the safety of the ground

Hi,
Try Gladiator (part of the Admiral group) for your insurance - they just charged me £20 to add window cleaning to my property maintenance PL insurance. They were also fairly cheap with the van insurance too!

Good luck,

It makes a huge difference whether you're a Sole Trader or an employer.
For Sole Trader, try MMA Insurance plc (through any decent broker) who do a "Master Tradesman" policy which they modify to include window cleaners. This has the usual "not the property being worked on" clause, but this is intended for such things as a kitchen worktop that some dolt cuts in the wrong place, etc. From the w/c point of view it means the actual window you are in the process of cleaning, not the building/premises you are working on, so unless you are b*** clumsy jit won't make any real difference, especially as you will have to pay an excess as you would with any insurance.
Mine was about £75.00 for £1mill cover
Cheers,
Ian

Hi,
Just to add, mine is with MMA for 2 mil as a sole trader (Gladiator being a broker). So far they have been good and no problems with getting cover.

Yes im with Zurich and they are not the cheapest, but i have used them for quite a few years with other insurances as well as PL and EL, and you wont have a problem if you need to claim!

These who i have used and thought very reasonable.
