Ive been asked to price for this building using their own cradle,
any advice would be helpful!
is it better to price per pane, per section or per floor?
and do you add more for each story you go up?
ideas please!! ???

Charge a lot!!!!!!
A good few grand ;)
How long is the cradle, does it cover the whole seven window sections?

I,m not even going to guess at a price for that but please watch your insurance as my policy will only cover upto a certain hieght.
(you might need to add in extra to ghange your policy)

Before you even start to think about prices, you need to inspect the maintenance certificates for the cradle system, in particular the anchorage on the roof, and assure yourself that it's all in proper working order. A big deciding factor will be how easily the cradle moves, whether it's powered or hand cranked, and whether you need an operators certificate - like you do for cherry pickers. It's easy to price the actual cleaning - just work out how long it would take you to clean one window and multiply by the total number of windows. After that you need to know how long it takes to reposition the cradle between windows (or floors, if the cradle spans the whole length of the building). Then there's the question of getting round the corners to the other faces of the building. Is there a separate cradle for each face, or do you have to move it round? That could be a time consuming operation - try it before you commit to anything.
I reckon you should do a "dry run" in the cradle, and time yourself - that way you avoid any nasty shocks after you start work ;)

totally agree with ian some of these cradles can be a real pain especially the ones with a traverse rope you pull which moves you side ways it can be very stiff and you have to pull like hell to shift it your poor hands will be bleeding by end of day if not used to it. sometimes if they are really stiff you can do the work in single drops but this is time consuming.

having another look at the pictures i think two men working in same cradle could do all outsides in under two days but pick your days carefully if it windy dont bother you will be swinging about all over the place.

SOD THAT!!!

2 men, 1 day piece of p, don't be scared, go for it.

Remember the Grange hill song from the 80's, Just say No!!! I think you should say it.
Your gonna need specialy insurance for cradles

There is 1568 panes if the other two sides are the same as the two showing thats not including the lowest level so you should be looking at 3 days premium work for two people.(works out about a £1 per pane)
If the cradle is a good one and smooth (motor) £1500 -£1700.
If by crank system good luck (1 week) £2400
Don,t bust your balls putting in a cheap quote if you get it it will be a bonus and you will be putting off your own work to take it on.
Let us know how you get on.
I would love to do it that,s why we are in the game to get the best work possible.
Good luck to you.

Hey guys, thank u all for your helpful (and not so helpful!) comments and suggestions. I didnt know much to begin with but now i feel confident enough to give a price for it - once i speak to them about what type of cradle it it and how long it takes to move it, how much it'll be to add to my insurance etc, i'll be in a good position to give a decent price.
Thanks for all your info!
i'll let you guys know how i get on.

oh, an special thanks to Robbie for breaking it all down and thinking a lot about it!
;D

£5000, and not a penny less - if they can get someone else to do it then fine but no way would I do it for any less.
-
I will do it for £4,995 ;D
He still hasnt told us how long the cradle is! and I doubt its the length of the building.

i'll find out today about the length of the cradle, if you look at the pics, all the windows have a concrete edge runnign round them al so the cradle will have to run down these deep channels between each section. so we're assuming the cradle will be the length of the 7 pane section.
will clarify it later tho.
