Title: Iron Bru on 80/20 wool-polly beige carpet
Post by: fletch on November 26, 2006, 07:25:29 pm
Does anybody with experience know how to remove Iron Bru from a 80/20 wool-polly beige carpet.
The custy had used a 4in1 all singing all dancing domestic carpet cleaner before I got there, so I rinsed this out with hot water with my bravo then applied Red R x in a small area which did nothing, I then put some fibre & fabric rinse in but to no avail ??? , I finally mixed a bit of oxibrite in with fibre & fabric rinse :-[ yet again nothing.

Any good sound advice would be appreciated  :)

I've always believed that irn bru dyes the carpet rather than stains it due to the food colourant in it

Derek is correct, there are two specific dyes in Irn Bru, a yellow and a red, the only thing that works is high heat.............but..........you could lose additional colour from the fibres.

There are claims from Kirby, who sell a product which they claim will remove Irn Bru and if used with high heat you will get a limited result, but the product, is just a similar product to many others, which most suppliers offer, to remove, red wine, fruit drinks, etc.

If you offer to attempt a high heat treatment ( domestic iron through clean white towel ) make absolutely sure that you warn the client of the possibility of colour loss.

In 90% of cases I suggest..........insurance claim !

good luck

Well thanks for the replies and advice lads, I think I did the best I could considering the circumstances.
I did think about doing the heat treatment with an iron etc?
However the size of the stain was spread out to much.
