Title: Cleaning Contractor Network?
Post by: ColinD on November 23, 2006, 02:27:16 pm
Hi folks.

A few weeks ago whilst visiting the Parsimonious Periwinkle for a gallon of grog I dropped my pipe on the floor. After five minutes of hunting for it amongst the fluff and detritus that carpets the floor I found it.

I mentioned to the Manager that the cleaning of the premises was not just appalling it was practically nonexistent, he agreed, but said that his cleaner had no idea. So being a nice person I wrote, free of charge, a cleaning spec for them, with a Risk Assessment, Health & Safety and training manual. Am I nice guy or what? (No rude answers please)

This week the owner of the Periwinkle, asked for a meeting to discuss the possibility of me providing the same for his other pubs. (This time I charge)

All of the groups cleaning is in-house, but they do need contractors every so often to take on cleaning jobs their staff cannot undertake. (Carpets – Kitchens – Emergency Cleaning after disasters etc ;)

So I put the brain cell into action and thought about it. Here we are all part of a forum. I work in a specific area of the country, which does not cover the other pubs that this guy owns. But surely, if we had a network of companies that covered the country we could pass “one off” contracts across to each other.

Obviously there would have be some uniformity and of course guarantees that any participating company/business fully complied with all statutory regulations. But that can be resolved later.

I don’t run a cleaning company as such; I own and operate a Cleaning Consultancy, with some cleaning sub contracted out, as required.

My web site is being built even as I write this; We’re just waiting for the cement to dry so we can put the roof on! So, there is another opportunity for you young thrusters out there. If this Net work could be organised I would be willing to put links, Free of Charge, to Cleaning Companies in all areas of the country.

I hasten to add I am not looking for business. I am looking for a way to provide a service to my clients and possibly help out my fellow cleaning contractors. After all it is Christmas.

Your thoughts, ideas and suggestions, please.

Colin,

you old bugger you  ;D

Good luck on this one, methinks!!!!!!!!

I tend to agree with you on a lot of things, through this forum, however our methods differ ;D in trying to get others to think about what they are doing etc.

However, if your main business is as a consultant, could not your own business suffer if the contractors that you suggest to this client let the side down as it were?

I think we both, and a lot of others on this site, know that it is very easy to talk the talk, but a lot of people seem to have real trouble, walking the walk!

Regards,

Rob

Hi Rob,

Less of the old bit. Yes I do agree with you, the possible consequences of recommending anybody could be profound, but I was just "floating" an idea.

It does work in other service based industries. The pity is that we don't have a qualifying standard, in our industry, to work with. But that is another point, and one that I have argued for over many years, and even on this forum.

Let's sit back and wait for the responses from the Young Thrusters. If it could work, there could be a lot of work for people. But, and there always is a but, it would have be based upon mutual trust and understanding.

Best wishes.

Colin.

Hi Colin,

That's a very good idea. The SCSF was set up with referals and networking as 2 of it's objectives, feel free to have a look.
As far as working to standards, that is something you could decide on, before passing on any leads.

Sorry to all those folk that were interested in the Contract Cleaning Network. But I have been "Hors d'Action dû à maladie". But I'm back at the desk now, so when the brain cell starts to function again, tomorrow, with a litle bit of help from attending the Parsimonious Periwinkle for a gallon of grog I will get to it and present some further ideas.

Best wishes.

Excellent Idea!

Madmary's Cleaning Services covers Northamptonshire and parts of the 7 surrounding counties (yes 7! - look at a map)

Primarily, we are new build specialists, but we are always looking to diversify.
As well as 'new-build' we currently service, pubs, sheltered housing communal areas, appartment communal areas and more...

Please keep all who showed a positive response to this topic informed as to your progress.

Happy Christmas...

That is a really good idea, likewise we often refer other companies - even within our own area if we are fully booked.

We cover the Hertfordshire area and parts of Bedfordshire.

you can check the company out at www.megacleancommercial.co.uk or email me at claire@megacleancommercial.co.uk

quick addition to my last post - in response to the worry about referring a company that isn't one of the best - just don't refer them again, choose another, better company in that area.

I'd be interested in that. We operate in the North West. If you want to look at our website for more info about us its www.bladesmaintenance.com or email me at adambuller@bladesmaintenance.com . It's a good way to network and provide a better service to your clients if you dont yet have a national capacity!

All the best

hi this is a brilliant idea, ;D
i workin north wales and angelsey, but would go further a field for the right price, we do floor sanding and hard floor cleaning and i feel that the floor sanding side of my business would really benefit from this sort of networking.because we are going into the field of eco friendly varnishes for our customers now, and i think thats the way to go.

i am currently trying to get customers and contracts from pubs and hotels and maybe caravan parks. but with this sort of website it could be easier. if anyone has contacts at the moment they are deffinetely welcome.

thanx colin for the brain wave and i hope you will contact all of us when you start it

thanx jonny 8)

Hi colin,

We would be interested in the cleaning network, www.ecomsl.co.uk we are happy to work within 2 hour travel time from our head office in Derby. The only thing we do not do is Cheap ECO MSL carry out all other cleaning services but focus on quality.

IS0 9001 and 14001 accredited we offer contracted work, to a waide range of pubs, clubs and fitness araes, we have contacts with some of the countries leading chains and would be happy to pass on oppertunities to other likeminded quality focussed organisations.

building the business is easy, keeping it is what counts........ geoff@ecomsl.co.uk   ;D

Colin has not been active since Jan 6th, so I think it is highly unlikely
that the network will ever happen.
