All business's compete with others in the same market and window cleaning is no different....
Do you have a 'unique selling point' that sets you apart from the rest....even if that makes you more expensive than the competition?
I admit I am new to this 'game'....but I am continually told by my new customers that they like:
A scheduled clean date
Our terms and conditions
Bank/internet payment
The frames being clean every time (ammendment)
Many tell me that most window cleaners do not offer the above...
In the end whether its trad or wfp....it's window cleaning...what makes you stand out in the crowd?

In my opinion you dont need to be unique as a sole trader, there are about 25 million properties in the UK.
I dont offer any of the above and i have got quality woork coming out of my ears.
Just do a quality job and you will go far.

My unique selling point is that I work naked - Even in the winter! :D

Dito Dave, remember KIS (KEEP IT SIMPLE).
Why make life hard for yourself, making promises you may not be able to keep, with the way this job runs you need as much flexability as possable built into the job.

I have to admit that I like 'scheduled' work...George makes it a breeze...
Each Sunday...I just print out the weeks work and each day...I have a route to do and when I am finished...I do some leaflets...evening I do the quotations.

Wait until you have a full workload and bad weather kicks it, then it gets very hard to stick to your schedule, all my work is 4 weeks from the last date done, i am mostly on time but there are times when it is impossible to keep up

Exactly...a plan is a plan and when changes are required then the customer can be contacted...There are always exceptions to a rule....
We have had some bad weather this week....rain etc...all work completed.
I have to admit I am very much a person who likes structure and my round is building very much in keeping with that.
If I have total freedom of myself and what work I did and when...I may well not get it done... ;)
I have always made it clear that in the event of weather that prevents me from working...they will be rescheduled.

As far as unique selling point goes, I don't have a one. I do maily domestic so I do have an unusual selling point and that is WFP. It seems to be pretty rare still in my area to use this on domestics. As more W/Cers take this up, I will probably have to find one though. Also, turning up year after year more or less when I'm supposed to seems to be fairly unusual around here so I focus on that as well. You would be amazed how many times people say to me that they have been looking for a regular window cleaner for years when I have been doing just that a mere 50 yards from where they live. That's one of the reasons I tend to work weekends sometimes in areas where I wish to increase my business. It means that people see me working who would not otherwise do so.
My selling points are hardly unique but they seem reasonably effective most of the time. Now that I wish to develope more commercial work, I will need to have a good think about thisa issue though.
