My last question on this has been a dead duck, so here's a different angle.
Do you advertise?
If so, what do you find brings best response?
-
I use the local news agents and leave an add in the window,it works for me.
I also have a small add in the yellow pages plus a advert with yell.com.
The yell.com keeps my customers local as they put there postcode in to find someone local...good idea and it keeps the work local for me.
Or you can door knock but that's a load of leg work..!
hope that helps

hi we're in the yellow pages, yell.com, we also have an advert on window cleaning resources, w/c directory and touch loacl. We go out canvasing to!
We are recently starting designing a website and business email to try and get more customers!
Hope this helps!

I have a ad in a couple of local shops but also have an advert in the Yellow Pages.
I have also signed up to quite a few free directories on the internet.
In a different post i have also posted that i have advertised with 118Trades.com and just recently UFINDUS.COM - these are a waste of time and cost me. I think i have learnt my lesson know and just stick with Yellow Pages and the free directories.
The van is signwritten and brings in work, and alot still comes in through word of mouth.

Thanks so far Guys
-
Glad to be of assistance!!

How much comes from postcards in local shops?
-
To be honest i have only had one decent job come from the shop ads.
All other jobs have been small and not much money. I've turned away quite a few jobs from these ad lately.
I'm letting one run out but keeping the ad in the Hairdresser's i do as you get alot of little old ladies visit there and seem to get the better jobs from there out of the 2 i have left running.

I have a free listing with Yell.com also free listing Yellow pages , the local paper gets me a steady flow as does my website, did try 2/3 local shops but only had a couple of small jobs so didn't renew those, did also list for free with a couple of websites that came on here but nothing from them so far

Thanks guys, and Chris (guy as well :-[ )
I'd better come clean. I haven't advertised for 20 years, never needed to!
I got a guy from BT Phonebook selling advertising to me. I just wondered if I might be missing out?
-
I have atm stopped with local paper cause I thought over winter may not get as much so would save the 50 quid a month still getting at least 1 or 2 new customers a week with out trying
-
Thanks Chris.

The free listing on web sites is obviously worth it.I put one of my flyers in a couple of shop windows for a few months, didnt get a thing.Unfortunately, knocking is by far the best way to get work, but i dont like doing it.If some nice work comes up for sale,i will buy it

Up until last year we only had our free listings in the YP and Yell.com. Last year we took a box ad but have had no more calls and wont be wasting our money again this year.
We get more calls from our local parish Magazine.

PJ,
Why not use your local council business directory, most councils have them :-

I advertise in the yellow pages , and get plenty of calls ( not all in my area ) , i also leaflet and canvass !
-
I have tried most ways of advertising.
The one that works better than any others is the Local Parish Mag.
If there is one in your area try that as they work.

Thanks for replies. I decided to continue as I have for the past 20 years.
I've never advertised and I have enough work, so why worry.

True.
Mind you, word of mouth has been by far my best ad over the years. And I go after jobs I like the look of, like a Bloodhound!

Hi all, I get alot of calls from other window cleaners (established) giving out my number.
Do not advertise anymore after spending £1,000 over 2 years with the council mags but got next to nothing back.
It pays to be in with other cleaners/window cleaners.
