??? ??? ???
i hate weeds. i jetwash patios and driveways and before you know it the weeds are back!!! the surface is clean but the joints are full off weeds. i clean blockpaving like new but when i have finished resanding give it a couple of months and the grass seeds have blown in the joints and it looks terrible!!!!
flags are the same. if there is no cement in the joint the weeds grow quick in the joints.
it needs something strong put down after i have finished cleaning???
any help or tips would be very helpfull. ??? ???

I believe the problem is not you but when the paving/patio`s were layed, the way to stop weed`s etc is to put down a membrane before the slab`s etc.

hi ant nice to hear from ya. ;)

not expecting any work till feb - march now.

The drives and patios slowed right down late summer, almost stopped if I'm honest but just recently I've been pretty busy. Mostly big mossy concrete drives and had a couple of patios and a nasty old tarmac drive to do. Mad for the time of year. Got a few fleet vehicle cleans which is a good monthly earner and got myself a wfp set up in my van now aswell so still quite busy. I must admit if it wasn't for my window cleaning round I would be suffering badly.
The amount of flyers that I have put out I'm hoping for a good spring and summer.
Trying to get a website up and running at the moment. I hate computers. To tight to pay someone to do it for me so I'm having a go myself.
All the best

Have a look at this site www.amenity.co.uk you want either Clear-guard or Freeway. I haven't used the Freeway product but do use Clear-guard, on sufaces I cleaned in May were still clear of weeds in October this year. Apply straight after washing on block paving, as to allow surface to dry out completely before re-sanding.

Jay,
Yes that's the stuff its a concentrate, so you mix it down with water. coverage depends on what you use as a sprayer. But as a guide, 140ml to 5 litre of water in a pump-up, will do around 30 sq mts. I use a low pressure system for spraying, so coverage is a lot more for me. I charge extra for this service.

sodium chlorate
hi drivewasher where do you get sodium chlolrate?
-
hi rog again, that sounds good, but when you re-sand the joints with fresh kiln dried sand you can get grass seeds blowing in the joints and growing in the sand in no time so do you then apply another coat of clearguard after resanding to stop that??
-
No Jay,
Thats tho reason you put Liln dried sand in the joints, it's sometimes called sterilised sand noththing can germinate in it.
The reason weeds etc grow in the block joints it because during the year the sterile sand is erroded away by wind, rain and insects etc. The atmosperic dust, builds up in the slot left by the missing sand and any seeds that rest in it germinate. This is also why the weeds easily wash away as a well laid block drive will have no growing plants/weeds in the sub base there all in the top 1/2 inch
