just been asked to submit all relevant forms for a builders clean including 714 details. What is a 714 detail?
Being a sole trader I can't even get insurance for external window cleaning of the site even though Iv'e been invited to tender for the whole lot, build clean,re clean and sparkle. So iv'e probably dipped out on this one :'(

Ello,
brand spanking new to this forum :)
I'm insured through UK Special Risks Ltd. I've got cover for builders cleans as well as window cleaning by own employees and by subcontractors. They are recommended brokers to BICSc. Nice people to deal with as well.
Useful forum by the way ;D

A 714 is a card you will need if sub-contracting to a construction company, you present the card to the firm, and they are then able to deduct tax @18 % from gross payments due to you.
If you apply at your local tax office, you should receive it in a couple of weeks, so get down there tomorrow!
Do not give up on that job because of the window cleaning, check to see if windows are 'tilt and turn' so that they might be done safely, from the inside, or ask if it is possible to clean them before the scaffold comes down ?

is the 714 different from the CIS card, or are they the same??

As far as I know the 714 was the old name for what is now the CIS card and I think some people in the building trade still use the term

Think you might be thinking of the CSCS card, which is 'skill' card issued by the Construction Industry Training Board
