Do they do like a really cheap clean, and not to be seen anymore afterwards? pfff....horrible.

Don't think people here get fooled by those people though....Guildford area is pretty concerned with who is cleaning/knocking on their house/door

Before i switched a year ago i had a Escort TDi Estate for work & my ladders were not shoddy. I had a lot of pride.

Why do some people look doen on a wc because they use an estate car with ladders on?  ::)

If i hadn't gone WFP then i would probably have still used a car for work.
The only thing i did do was fit magnetic signs to it so people could see who i was and how to contact me.
I think people look at people using a car as cowboy's because i suppose anyone with a car and a set of ladders can do the job. Most of the cowboys i have seen about have exactly that and think that people look at it as because they haven't invested in a works van then they aren't for real.
I know a few people who do the job fulltime and work from a car and do quite well, but think these genuine cowboys give the car user's a bad name.
I was called a cowboy when i 1st started when looking for work, but that stopped once i got the magnetic signs. Can't understand why though as there not that expensive to buy and they don't do that much for looks to the vehicle.

Too right about estate cars - my trusty ole Honda Accord Estate went to the breakers today - I had it for four years, used it to go from trad. to wfp, finally with a 175L tank and a couple of 25L barrels, 100m of microbore and a backpack.

Nowt wrong with estate cars.

I am saying no more !  :-X

Ive got nothing against window cleaners using estate cars though  8)

Nothing wrong with working from a car.

If i was still traditional i would still be using my car.
everything seemed so much easier then.

too right, thats the thing with wfp you need a van and when youve got a family you also need a car, when i was trad i could just make do with a car and i think people associate a window cleaner with car roof rack and ladder.
So having a car does not make anyone a cowboy

But doing a bad job does

Still trad and working from a red Citroen Saxo with a roof rack. Big dent in the side where i reversed out of a car park and span into a security bollard. Back seats laid flat with all my work equipment in the back. Soon to be upgrading but purely to go wfp.

Probably command some of the highest prices in town apart from one wfp company that i can think of. And i certainly wouldn't consider myself to be a cowboy, as i'm sure all of my satisfied customers would vouch for the quality of my work.

I started off working from a little hatchback car.  I would have continued with a car too if I had needed more than two seats.  Nothing wrong with it.

If you have a van, you can not have anybody in the back of the van coz they will not be insured.

There is a different breed of cowboy round here now. Its more akin to some of the practices used in the building trade.
I would call them "subcontract cowboy window cleaners". They work for firms who don't do the work themselves but farm it out to anybody who is mug enough to take on a round on a 50-50 basis.
These so called firms are not reputable companies with offices etc, they are dodgy blokes who run their businesses from the public bar of some grotty pub or other and expect to be paid in cash.

The blokes who work for them are usually just as dodgy, probably on benefits and are just in it for the money and so there is no pride or long term commitment.

I think they'd be more likely in an old van.

I think you'll find most cowboys these days drive around in pickups with huge wheels or giant humvees (whatever they're called), and live in Texas!

However, the sort round here who work for cash only, 'moonlighters', drive around in cars and vans, hard to tell who they are until proper winter then most do give up.  They don't have much business manner about them either so most valued customers don't bother with them.
