Sorry guys another post on vans
Im looking at adding to my fleet of 1 van with another ;D this van will be used mainly for other business ventures, quoting and beating the miles on rather than using my van with T/M, at present im getting around 20 - 25 miles to the gallon with the transit so looking for economy, but I do like a bit of comfort too what medium size vans are people running and at what running costs ? Any views welcome and does any one know the difference between the vivaro and all the other vans that look (are) the same and are they as bad as everyone makes out
Thanks
James

Hi James,
Have just bought a new vivaro lwb sportive and cant really fault it, drives like a car, air con, cd 6 speed box and about 40 mpg.
I think the traffic, vivaro and the nissan one are pratically the same van, the vivaro was the only one i could find in black,
just wanted to be different ;D (not a white van man ;))
-
i also have the trafic with air con a very good van and can be bought at a good price from vans direct in wales

we have a caddy van elec windows mirriors carpet very nice just like a car ;D £20 ,gets you almost 200mls :o ;D

Nice van, Carpet Doctor. Will you be fitting a nice tm in there now? I have not been on line for months so need to catch up with whats going on.
I have just had to fit an exchange gearbox and clutch in my lwb vivaro at a cost of £1900. Apparantly they are Renault engines and transmissions and the boxs are only good for 75000 so regularly service and you won't go wrong.

I bought a Primastar which is the Nissan version of the Trafic/Vivaro in 2004 as it came with the options I wanted (solid bulkhead, leccy mirrors and ABS). It is nice to drive and economical.
The only problem was the PDI done by the main dealer was s**te. The horn didnt work because the fuse was MISSING but the van was supposedly thoroughly checked over by a technician.
So if you live in Essex watch out for Toomey Nissan

Dave,
T/M is already in - promount 18 from woodbridge, they did the whole caboodle van, lining t/m shelving tanks etc, and did a really good job :)
Only wish i'd done it 12 years ago ::)
Oh and some tasteful signwriting courteousy of my nephew 8)

Hi Steve
Good luck with your new combination, you won't regret making your life easier.
Jay, i have had a shed load of work over the last few months but my 6 year old girl has been bad with liver problems and has been in hospital twice both here and in Birmingham so i have had other things to worry about.
Apparantly vivaros and their relatives can suffer from the flywheel rubbing the inside of the bell housing, but this may now be sorted out with the six speed box.
To anybody going to buy a van, go online and download a report for a fiver listing the vehicles faults.

Can you please give us the web site for van faults
Many Thanks Michel

I did not know of any specific websites for van faults. If like me you wanted to buy say a Ford Transit, type into google, Ford Transit faults and one of the web pages will give you the info you need. I paid about £5 for a 12 page report which once i used my credit card, you download it then print out.
Had i had done this before buying the van, i might have saved a bit of money, however a recon box will last the rest of the vans life and the trade in price would be pretty low against a new one.
One thing that the report told me about Vivaros was that the glow plugs are about £1000 to replace and the injector pump £4000. Obviously shopping around would reduce this.
The main dealer wanted to charge me £4000 for a new box with fitting.
Hope this is of use to you

Hi James,
I've got a 2002 vivaro and touch wood no problems yet. Its been straight through the last 2 mot's with only brake pads and bulbs needing attention. Its now done nearly 60k. And with 18k service intervals and superb fuel econemy I think its one of the best vans around.
Can highly recommend it! However its aparently renault based and my local renault dealer has recently been offering great deals interest free on new vans.
Hope this helps,
Jason.

You guys thought of takining a warranty out??? Try warrantydirect.co.uk or rac or AA. You`ll find its about 3 or 4 hundred quid a year for full cover! Better than a whopping bill from your local dealer

I'd also say that if it's a small van you are after then a berlingo is hard to beat.
However, if you intend getting a porty in and out on a regular basis try one out first. The rear bumper is a bit fat and it's difficult getting some machines in/out.
